First BLG?

Habitat: Pennsylvania. In a nature park close to my house. These two were pulled from their origin and left on the ground, I hunted EVERYfuckingWHERE for their big cluster patch...no luck...perhaps another shroomer dropped it out of their bag on the way??? Various hardwoods are in that park sorry I can't help much more.
Gills: Gills, orangeish/light brown
Stem: Solid, about 3 inches long
Cap: Maybe 3 inches in diameter as well
Spore print color: Darkish orange / light brown

Also, some BLG questions as I might possibly have my first one(s) finally
1) If they are 100% positively identified as laughing gyms, does that mean they are 100% safe to eat?
2) What is the best method to consume? They've been drying on a pizza box for about a day, I haven't washed them since I picked from the park.
3) Any words of advice from others who have laughed with good ol' Gym before?
and finally..
4) If I put a few chunks of the cap in a spray bottle and shook it around real good, then sprayed some logs...would that effectively start turning into mycelium or would that be a waste of time and effort?
Thanks a lot!!!!!

I'll quote a response from your mushroomobserver entry:
Quote:
smell, taste, kind of tree it was growing on, better pictures plus a pic of the cap…
I second that. They are quite possibly a gymnopilus species, but I cannot say if this is one of the active species.
I'd be hard pressed to eat gyms myself, though. Boy, do they have a godawful bitter taste.

Is there any way to mask the bitter taste? I usually mix cubes with peanut butter and the taste is masked fine. There is also a laughing tea I've heard about however I once made fly cap tea and that shit was un-drinkable

not really. also the experience is usually unlike that of psilocybin from what I hear.
and your mushrooms are still just a possibility, some better pictures and description could decide wether or not your eating a toxic cort.

Sorry that's the best camera I have around while at college =( I thought the only gym look alike in PA were jack-o-lanterns and that the spore print color will tell you the difference (mine's orange/light brown)?
I'm not arguing, and certainly won't eat the mushroom until I get a confirmation but I don't know what to do since I can't get you guys better pics

They're not jack-o-lanterns. However, there are some inactive gym species, which obviously will do nothing for you but leave a bitter taste in your mouth. There is also a (remote) possibility that these are a cortinarius species (they also have a rust-colored spore print...) and some corts are poisonous. But I think you at least have a gym species.

Ok thanks that makes sense, I'll try to get a better camera tomorrow or something. The fall rain is finally here so hopefully even if this isn't a laughing gym I'll find something soon
