I used to be in the same boat as you, I started getting acne when I was about 12, me and one other girl were the only kids in middle school with acne so you can imagine the teasing.  I had bangs at the time, and my acne was all over my forehead and then it spread down to my cheeks and chin.  Looking at other photos I would classify it as moderate severity.  It wasn't all crazy pizza-face looking, but I had a fair amount of it.  At this point I was young and wasn't really washing my face except with water once or twice a day.

After I grew my bangs out my forehead cleared up, but I still had acne on the rest of my face.  I was about 15 and started using all sorts of soaps and astringents, even tried Retin-A micro -- I don't care how bad your acne is, DON'T use any vitamin A cremes!  This stuff made my skin peel off in chunks, made my face really red and dry and nasty-looking, plus I still had pimples!  I remember being in Biology class and scratching an itch on my cheek and all this gross flaky skin crumbled off onto my binder.  I kinda freaked and wiped it away, hoping no one saw.

This moderate acne continued until I was about 18, and then it cleared up a lot on it's own I guess.  I wasn't taking special care of my face or anything (I mean damn, I was homeless and sleeping under a tarp in the woods, taking horse baths at the gas station and walking to my shit job at Dairy Queen where I also consumed most of my diet [and NO I did not get fat, I actually lost a ton of weight eating nothing but Dairy Queen but this was also because I had to walk an hour to get there and an hour home and mostly only ate 3x a week]) 

Right now I'm 21, and my face is mostly clear.  I still have a few pimples here and there, but compared to what it used to look like, I am hella pleased. 

I use this product called Clearasil sea salt scrub, but it's out of production now, at least where I'm at.  I'm finishing my last bottle now.  I would recommend against any Clean & Clear products, they tended to leave my face oily.  Next I am going to try gentle scrubs with AHA and BHA (alpha-hydroxy acids and beta-hydroxy acids.)  They are targeted towards aging women who want to refine their wrinkles, but I had used them occasionally in the past and had good results.  This includes products like St. Ives apricot scrub.

But you may just throw all my advice out the window since I'm a chick. :tongue:  Try it though.

I've never had one day acne free since I was 12, and I'm in my mid twenties. For some people, it never goes away. Adult acne persists into the late fifties. My mother has been in acne treatment for 35 years.

I am female and that is a large contributor to my acne. It still feels like it never goes away though. Some people can expect to have acne their whole lives, and you might be one of them.

Acutane.  I get almost nothing now, and I had HORRIFIC skin in high school, and so does my mom, still at 51.  Acutane for 3 months - perfect skin.

acutane fucks up your body so bad though.

my friend is on it and he became suicidal/had to visit a shrink as a result.

I've only had a few pimples here and there until my mom started buying
the  zit creams and crap, after I stopped using them it went back to
just a few every now and then... my room mate used the shit until he was
20 and couldnt figure out why I never got pimples, when he stopped his
face cleared up... there's a lot of products that exacerbate the problem
but since it's not a regulated product they can make what ever claims
they want without dealing with government or lawsuits

my sister has difficult skin, and when she's older she'l probably go on the contraceptive pill to clear it up...probably not an option for you tho as ur a guy. but the doctors can prescribe various pills and creams that truly help as oppsosed to the wannabe ones u can buy off the shelf. also try changing ur diet. i know someone who stopped eating cheese and their acne cleared up in a week or so and never came back unless they had cheese again. caffiene wont be great either as it dehydrates your body - great if u have alcohol with it and wanna get drunk really quickly, as the alcohol is then more concentrated - but bad for washing crap and toxins out of your body, which cause acne.

If you dry out your skin too much, your skin becomes to produce more oil to compensate, thus clogging your now smaller pores as they are constricted form your dry skin, thus you get even worse acne.

I am 30 and still have acne. Although I rarely get breakouts on my face. I used to be a major pimple face from middle school thru high school. But now I mostly get zits on my chest and back and arms. Kinda weird but at least it's not on my face...
Also, I kinda feel that I breakout more when I eat a lot of sugar.

I was lucky. I never had acne. A huge breakout for me was like three pimples.

Dude I'm 24 and still suffer from acne
my face is pretty clear now for the most part but I have noticable acne scars.

My back and ass still get really bad my naked body from behind is not a sexy sight at all lol. I could spend hours in the bathroom squeezing off mirror mines.

Try Accutane man It cleared me up in 5 months and I stayed clear for about 2 years before it started to come back. If you can deal with dry skin and bloody noses in exchange for having no pimples then Accutane is your best bet.

mine really started to settle down when i was 19. now i just use face wash in the shower and sometimes at night. like cowgold said shaving makes a big difference too. if i don't shave for 2-3 days i get pimples/ingrown hairs on my chin and neck.

Mostly by about 20, probably would have been earlier without the picking that comes with narcotic habits.

Still, anyone can get a pimple here or there, especially when not practicing good hygiene.

I'm 18 and still get maybe 1 small acne spot at a time. my acne started late though, at age 16 I think. I use a neem/tumeric face gel and that's been working really well. I think the soaps just makes acne hurt a lot.

I never had acne to begin with.

Changing your diet can do much to help.
Eat less greasy foods and dairy.

I had acne for the longest time, not terrible, but a pretty good amount, after the 5-month treatment of Accutane that shit is now gone, and I get maybe 1 small one every week or two, but it goes away in a day or two.

Accutane/Claravis is the way to go.
