Liberty Caps

Hi all I live in Minnesota around lake superior, I also travel to the middle of the state a lot. I was looking at pics and I saw one of a liberty cap, and i must say if thats what they look like i've seen lots of them before. Could some one please post a good picture of an identified liberty cap with a good discription, and a discription of any shrooms that are not liberty caps but look similar. Guess I just want to be really sure thats what they are. I would NEVER pick them I'd just like to know if thats what they really are. Thanks

That's not feasible, I'm afraid. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of species that can be mistaken for liberty caps by relatively inexperienced hunters. The best thing to do would be to collect a few specimens of what you think are liberty caps and post a complete ID request here. Note that picking a few mushrooms for ID purposes is an accepted practice and is not likely to get you in any sort of legal trouble.
