Weight of a brick of coir
    #11136018 - 09/27/09 08:01 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

So I got this huge brick of coir.  I have looked at bedabeast online and i can't seem to find out how much a brick weighs.  Any one have an idea?

Who cares what it weighs? We measure everything in volume.

I realize this but the fact of the matter is I have a 5kg block and to do the ccv tek it says use one brick per so many quarts of this and that.  So that I can figure out how much to chop off my brick so that i can have a good estimate of how much to use.

Ah, good point I suppose.
While I don't have a scale at my disposal right now, the block that I have is probably about 2.5" by 4" by 8" long and makes ~8 quarts. Those are just rough estimates of course.

Considering that the 5kg block will expand to make ~75qt you could use 1/10th of it. Assuming it's the standard 10"x10"x4" block, you could just cut off 1" from the face of it and have pretty close to 7.5qt which is basically a normal brick quantity.

A brick of coir is about 22 ounces.
Flake that much off your big block with a short sturdy knife, and make a batch. You can calibrate from there.

I asked the same question last month:

How much does a coir brick weigh?

How many sparrows would be required to carry a brick of coir across a football field?

Oh and btw, my math comes out to 8 bricks worth in your bale Truskool if the bale is 5kg and a brick is 22 ounces.

Yeah, that's about right. 7-8 bricks worth or so. You'll have to see how it fluffs up, you can't compare just by weight.
