Peaceful G20 Protesters Have No First Amendment Rights
    #11135942 -

this video is disturbing to me.  can anyone tell me what these peaceful demonstrators were doing that was illegal and deserved this treatment?

also note that this crowd was very different from your typical "anarchistic" protesters shown all over the mainstream media.

btw, the guy with the megaphone was later arrested.

Dood, I agree it is crazy, but come on, you cannot assemble in the middle of the street!!!!!!!11

Move it to the sidewalks and keep moving if you have a message - do not loiter in the street.

Disturbing, but I am able to comprehend both sides of the argument.

it's been that way for decades, in this instance, Pittsburgh is being sued because of the permits

is it peaceable assembly if you prevent me from using the roads with an illegal protest?

You need a permit to interfere with my rights to walk, ride or drive down the street.

I don't know about the specific incident, nor do I care.  At all.  But there is most definitely a valid reason to require permits for mass protests.

These people could learn a thing or two from the teabaggers. If you really want to fuck with bureaucracy, do the damn paperwork. In fact, you should create as much paperwork as possible.

You guys are fucking retarded if you think that the people in this video were wrong. The guy with the blow horn has it RIGHT ON. This whole mess happens because people think that the government has the right to nullify american rights because they want to.

I was watching fox news, yes Fox and as their reporters were peppered sprayed they also showed a group off people pushing those large trash bins down the road. I don't understand what the point was of moving those big ass trash cans but they did film that problem.

On the other hand some guy sitting on his porch watching this happen in front of his house was also gassed. I can understand why, he wants to protect his assets.

Just watched the vid the OP posted. Now if I was a cop I would beat down that guy with the boom mic he is annoying.
I am tempted to go to one of these gatherings in my Charlies and see how i'm treated. I would also like it to be filmed.

To be fair, megaphones are notoriously as dangerous as stealth bombers and protest signs that have anything left-wing of neoconservative are as dangerous as artillery. I mean it's not as if these protesters of the G20 only brought the odd gun or something civil like that they were a clear threat to the public that needed to be neutralized.

To call the first amendments use of the phrase
Quote:
Congress shall make no law... or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

protects people's right to assemble outside of barricades and not impede traffic is terrorism. Look it up.

It's like screaming fire in a movie theatre, yea you should have the freedom of speech to say it, but look at all the people you negatively effect when you do it.

The law is put in place so that people can express themselves, but also not interfere with others, so it's really a law designed to try to protect both parties interests as best as possible.  The constitution didn't predict such situations, but we cannot ignore that something needs to be done about them.

Hears the best I can explain it.  We have the right to protest, but we do not have the right to stand in the middle of public streets and block traffic (jaywalking maybe, idk).  Therefore if you want to protest, make sure you aren't breaking other laws, and if you will be breaking other laws, the government allows you to get a permit, which is symbolic that our freedom of speech can come before these other laws.
