Sterile Shrooms

I just harvested my second casing of sterile shrooms in a row. There are no spores at all. The strain is B+ grown on cased birdseed and they are all absolutely sterile (and yes they were very mature). I guess I was just wondering if there is anything that could cause this other than just a genetic defect. I'm getting really low on spores and I really need to get some more but I can't seem to produce any.

Describe your spore printing method, including when you take the cap and where you place it to print.

I take the cap off when the edges of the cap start to turn upwards or when the caps start dropping spores everywhere. Then I place it on some sterile wax paper and put a jar over it for usually about 24 hours. I have done this many times in the past with no problems but my last few batches of shrooms haven't produced any spores at all.

umm ummm ummm... hmmmm

maybe ur not waiting long enough.. sometimes it takes a little longer then 24 hours. Maybe, you have been taking spores from genetically weak sporulating shrooms, and have therefor increase the chance of sterile shrooms. I really dont freakin know. I wish I could help but I really dont know why this is occuring. Psilocybe Cubensis usually readily sporulate w/o any type of special conditions.

So if they`re dropping spores then why exactly are they sterile??

I think that has been in his previous attempts, but recently they have been sterile. Thats how i understand it.

ohh and BTW i stated no such thing.

Why not stir the pot to massage his nueral impulse to his brain?
Make him think a bit for himself :smile:

An idea would be to clone a piece of a mushroom in some peroxidated Honey water and then use the resulting spore solution.
Or transfer a pice to agar and create a viable isolate from that?

I'm not sure if there are enough neuro-transmitters left. I was just trying to get a question answered without being a smart ass for once.

If you clone a sterile shrooms, I'm pretty sure its gonna be sterile. But you would be able to continue growth for some time that way.

Well your method sounds ok. If you have successfully taken prints before, then I'm guessing you have a mutated strain. Maybe just try picking a little earlier (or later) and letting it print longer. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.

Thanks for the help. I guess I will try and start anew with an older print and see if that fixes the problem.

were these from a multi-spore inoculation? If so you may just have a sterile sub-strain. Happens every once in a while.

If it's from a multi-spore inoculation then there will be many different substrains, and the likelihood of all of them being sterile is slim. Something wrong with the growing conditions is my guess, not enough light maybe?
I had probs getting good sporeprints when I was still growing "closet style".
