watering casings
    #1110754 - 12/04/02 07:07 PM (14 years, 7 days ago)

please help a newbie!

My reading tells me that you drop the humidity to get the casings fruiting, but that the casing itself should be at optimum moisture level, and that it's this higher evaporation rate that lets fruiting growth speed up.

My casing has started to pin (wahey! 21 pins since they started this morning!) but it looks a little dry. I'm afraid I'd knock down some rhizo if I sprayed it, can I drizzle water on?

Are your cakes in a fruiting chamber?? Are they covered with a cover??? I would think that spraying the sides of the chamber would work....or atleast that is what I have read. Sorry man, hope you get yor answer

Mist your fruiting chamber, not the casing directly. I wouldn't pour water directly on the casing...

Spray a piece of plastic wrap and lightly put it on top of your casing.

over watering casings is what causes pins to abhort....

Light mistings is ok. I think the problem is getting a handle on what is light and what is not.....

I just mist the top layer of the casing until it appears damp. Works for me.

Ditto, I try to be heavy on the moisture content of my substrate and casing when I begin, thus I don't mess too much with the whole misting thing because my whole container has the moisture already in it....

Thanks to all of you for the advice. I shall mist in the air above and across the casing.

These forums are a lot of fun, aren't they. Lots of helpful types hanging around.
Gradually I'm seeing a lot of the same names appearing - a few aggressive types, a couple of know-it-alls and the occasional bullshitter..... I think you know what I'm talking about.
