Possible Stuntzii, Portland
    #11107271 - 09/22/09 05:32 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:
Found in a nice, healthy, Well Watered lawn in Portland, OR
Gills:
Dark brown with what i think looks like a hint or purple. Hard to say Difinitively.

Stem:
about 1-4 inches, slightly tapering upward, dingy yellowish at the base getting lighter up the stipe. small veil on a few and others that it seemed to have mostly dissapeared on. Looks to be tinged purple brown. hard to say.
Cap:
Broadly umbonate, with blunt nipple, Hygrophanous. They were wetter the first time i noticed them, about 3 days ago and were a Straw mixed with carmely brown type color.

Spore print color:
in progress, pretty dry. any advice?

Bruising: One mushroom had Blue-Green bluing towards the top of the cap. There is i a good chance i bumped it as i picked one the other day while at the busstop to look at. but my bus came as i picked it, so i threw it and got on.

Other information:
Very dry. Put a few drops of water in hopes gaining a spore print. My first thought was stuntzii but the also resemble Linformans var. Americana alot as well.

I don't think those are stuntzii. Wait for a spore print and a TI.

The stem is pretty strong and pliant. Im confused by them. The bluing on the one is kinda hard to see, partly cause they are dry it seems, but in person it has a very Psilocybin look to it. But its really dark as well.

They may be Psilocybes but I see no annulus to make me think it is a stuntzii.

I also am not a TI.

I suppose they could be stuntzii. I can sort of see a bluish ring now.

Unfortunately,  I wasnt able to obtain a spore print. I watered the patch with a water bottle, hopefully some sporulating fruits will come in.

looks promising

you could always try throwing a dried specimen into a bowl of warm water and waiting 20 mins or so for it to return to near its original form.

definitely try to get some pictures of it fruiting in its habitat.

The mushroom in the first picture does seem to have a greenish looking bruising reaction but the cap looks very red. The others do resemble dry stuntzii but I can't say for sure.

Take photos of some of the next ones that pop up while they are still fresh.
