Cobb Ga. Find, ID Request

So these were in a friends backyard and he thinks they might be weilii, im skeptical, especially because of the habitat ( not in bermuda or pinestraw or fescue.. theres pine trees farther back in the yard and bermuda in the front yard tho) but they smell like the ones i had a few days ago, so any idea what these are?


* Habitat: Cobb Ga, in a backyard with moss growing over red clay/dirt

    * Characteristics of the gills Brown, fairly spread apart
    * Characteristics of the stem: fairly short, kind of beefy, will update if i notice bruising
    * Characteristics of the cap: pic provided
    * Spore print color: printing now, will update
    * no bruising noticed yet
    * i don't know exactly how to describe it but it smells identical to a bag of shrooms i've gotten recently
    * some growing in clusters, not very many overall though

I'm not going to give a full id, but I will say that the cap looks like its the right shape, coloration and texture. The stem looks weird, maybe just dirty?

My first guess says it is, but wait for blueing and a trusted IDer.

Maybe a Cortinarius or some brown spored mycorrhizal.  It doesn't really remind me of any Psilocybe species.

have to agree. it doesn't look quite right, at that stage in its life, with that kind of damage, it should be blue all over. sorry bro.

That's what I was thinking. It has some similarities, but without a hint of bluing and with that amount of damage I doubt it.

I have yet to find a weilii that is blue while still in the ground. They only bruise when I pick them, and then they dry out to be almost black. Check that spore print...It looks like a weilii to me, but until you print it, be skeptical.

Looks very weiliish to me.  I wouldnt throw them out yet.  Can you take any more pics?  Ive seen them growing in just about everything, even nothing but dirt.  You should definitely notice at least a smudge of blueing on the stem as it drys though. 

Get a spore print, take more pics! :smile:

thnx for the replies so far...added a few new pics...the original spore print got fucked up, so a new one is setting now

i noticed that the stems are hollow when taking the pics, not sure if it matters tho..

I doubt it, im 1 minute from cobb county and its a nice day today

all the schools are even closed for a "rain day" :crazy2:

Looks just like lots of the waterlogged weilii I have found this week. Don't take my word though, I can't be responsible for IDs of mushrooms I haven't seen in person. I can't handle that responsibility haha

I dont want to be your definitive answer either lol...but 99% sure those are Weilii.  I would need to smell them to be 100% or make sure they have a purple-brown spore print.  Those little ones should blue/green nicely.  Pinch one of the stems.

The new images look more promising, but I'm not convinced.

Get a spore print and photograph any bruising you see.

The spore print is the correct color for P. weilii, and that may be what you have.
