I am planning to trip this friday with 5 guys on 7 grams, dono what kind yet, at a friends house where there wont be anyone there till Monday... I was wondering, (and i know this might be a question i could answer myself, but im bored) anyone got any ideas for some tunes to play in the background on the house stereo (which plays throughout the house) that would be good for a day of trippin? Not necessarily music like Mushroomhead that wraps you up or anything...just like some feel-good tunes to play while we do whatever

SHPONGLE will be absolutely perfect. Its MADE for exactly this situation and its the most psychedelic audio production I've ever heard

Man every post I read, Strumpling is telling people to listen to Shpongle.
Good goin! If you keep drilling it into Shpongle-virgin's minds they might try it out! I listened to Shpongle on shrooms and it was great.

No. No single tracks.... if you're just getting mp3s then forget it - on mp3 its only a fraction as cool as cd-quality - this the only artist where it makes a HUGE difference.
The entire CDs are journeys - you shouldn't just listen to one track.. nevermind.
-=- Matt/Strumpling -=- you should all hear the CDs

It really depends what bit rate the MP3s are... anything from 192 up is CD quality. Unless we're talking super audio or dvd audio but I don't think shpongle releases there stuff on that. I'm not saying don't buy the CDs, especially in a case like this where the artists will get a large portion of it... And if you want to be that picky, don't listen to anything other than vinyl, it's impossible for digital audio to ever be as realistic as analog just because of the way it's stored. I mean you can get an infinately high bit rate, but it still won't be a smooth wave....
As for suggestions, anything by sigur ros is good, perhaps some Mogwai, the orb is always great, maybe some classical of some sort.

Shpongle isn't really ambient, but kinda sorta.
Aphex Twin- Pretty much any of his ambient tracks NIN- A Warm Place Tool- Aeon Blue Apocalypse Deep Forest- Oh, fuck I can't remember.....but it was good. Murex (myself)- Panacea or Azuron (long and tranquil)
MUREX TRACKS CAN BE DOWNLOADED HERE
P.S.: Everyone who has listened to my stuff has liked it, so it ain't shit.

No, shpongle is not ambient. But I'm not sure the original poster knows what ambient really is anyway.
try some old tangerine dream.

Hey Holy Shet Fuhl
as far as ambient goes, i'd recommend the following:- Svefn-G-Englar by Sigur Ros - Boucephalus Bounci by Aphex Twin - Everything You Do is a Balloon by Boards of Canada - Smokes Quantity by Boards of Canada - Aquarius by Boards of Canada - Eggshell by Autechre - Lowride by Autechre
For some cool psytrance/general tripping music try:
- Autumn Acid (Aphex Twin Remix) by Autechre - Outside Kick Ass Violin Solo by Aphex Twin - Geometry by Jega
i'll make a comprehensive list of my favorite tripping songs one day, i just haven't gotten around to it
have a great trip, keep in mind 5-7 grams dry is a fairly high dose

if you go to mp3.com and do a keyword search for "dxm" you'll find tons of stuff. one of the best ambient bands i have ever heard is dxm (a planet j laboratories project) available at mp3.com. other artists include dx_m dxm locke blue dreams and tambourines the three besides mystical sun especially waters of life and something very pure oedipus complex dave stafford (amazing stuff!) especially circa and willing participation in the dream
as far as commercial artists go, aphex twin girl boy song, digeridoo, beetles, tetrix remix (whee!) future sound of london papua new guinea, antique toy, pretty much anything pink floyd (obvious, but it never hurts to mention them) such as the animals cd
have fun man, i hope it's snowing where you are! -m

What's wrong with inviting me around to spin a set of full on flat out acid techno till your ears bleed? Nothing like acid techno for tripping. It's soooo fucking funky!
I found a CD today by a woman named Sheila Chandra. The Album's named ABoneCroneDrone all one word. It's well trippy. forty five minutes of droning, and she's got a lovely voice. If you like Dead Can Dance then you'll love this.
And Neil Diamond's cool.

She's one beautiful sounding woman, and looking too.
I found the CD by accident in the library, someone had put it in the wrong section. Being a huge beleiver in fate (and the fact that she looked so nice on the cover) I paid my 90 pence and took it home. I'm totally hooked, and going to have to get a listen to her other stuff. I've got a nice library who buy things that i ask them to stock. Needless to say they'll be asked to buy all her albums.

Is that 7 grams each, or between you all?
If it's between you all you won't be doing any tripping.
