every day 100s of questions here about proper methods.

you can go to any large dept store and buy a cheap pressure cooker that will reach 15psi for 40 dollars.

40 lousy dollars.

from boiling shit to this pot to that pot to a fucking frying pan (yes, today someone said they were going to use a fucking frying pan)

go buy a pressure cooker. go do it now. do not think about it. load up, hit the road, 40 bucks cash strapped in your back pocket and get one.

hell go to goodwill and you might get one for 20.

my buddy got an all americian at a thrift store for 50 bucks. like 24 qts.

you NEED a pressure cooker for this hobby. you need it you need it you need it.

put moms old crock pot away, skip the fucking frying pan and go get a damn pressure cooker.

now, lets cover this one more time.

I have been saying this for months. It is the best tool of anybody starting in this hobby. Fuck it put out a little more than $40 and get a good pc that has some extra space in it.You'll be happy you did the fisrt time you do a good number of quart jars.

If you want to use grains, there's no way round it you need a pressure cooker.

But its not nessesary for this hobby. I've been growing for the last 6 months using a shitty pot. And I've even been spawning to manure.

You can only get a good pressure cooker for $40 bucks at the thrift store. A new piece of crap PC that you can get for forty bucks isn't worth shit and probably can fit only 2 or 3 quart jars. If you're going to make an investment in a PC, why not get the best.

You absolutely don't need a pressure cooker when doing the PF tek, which is what most noobs do. If you are failing at the PF tek a pressure cooker isn't the end all, be all glorious solution.

If you are more serious, save yourself headaches and get a real All American monster PC that actually allows you to pressure cook more than one jar and isn't made of tin foil.

The same pc I'm currently working with.
I have found it's instructions for canning suck for grain so I have started to do it a touch differently than Presto's instructions.
Sterilizing is not canning I've come to find out.

I am a poor white boy. I bought a Presto 16 qt. for just under fifty bones, (around forty-five ish), brand spanking new and it works just fine!

Some day I will be able to get a billion gallon All-American, 'till then, as the OP said, a cheapy will, and does, work...

I just follow rr's tek on grain and it seemed to work fine..I fit 7 quart jars at a time. I wish I had spent the extra money and got the all american but I'm a cheap fuck some times and I only paid $70 plus shipping brand new..couldn't beat it.

i got the same cooker, it fits 11 or 12 full pint jars in it @ 15psi :thumbup:

Yeah guys, you can get away with "growing yourself mushrooms" without a PC. All you need is a good pot to steam-sterilize in for several hours. However, you can't use bulk without a PC...simply out of the question. You gotta kill those endo-spores.

Though i've only read, I have a PC myself. The best tool you could invest in, hands down. Well, second to being patient, oh, and researching before you post...:rolleyes:


Now lets be fair and reasonable. Noobs, despite common misconception, are people with feelings as well, Right?...:shrug:

my first grow: steam sterilized BRF cake jars. glovebox/still air chamber inoculation. shotgun fruiting chamber. pretty good results and it was easy.

if you want to go PRO you need a PC. hands down and thats a fact.

ive had mixed results spawning PF jars to coir.

it definitely works though. you dont need anything other than your own wits to get a practical technique down that suits your own needs and gives you the results that you want.

although most people arent the McGyver type that veda seems to be, this is not rocket science, but to reiterate, a pressure cooker is INVALUABLE in this practice.

to the OP's credit. he is right. unless you want to follow the PF tek forever. GET A PRESSURE COOKER.

You use quart jars for WBS, right? if so, what size pressure cooker would I need to do at least 2-4 jars at a time? Will one quart of spawn make a monotub? How many half pints is that (one quart)?

I bought a cheap PC and after a year and a half of limited use, the bottom was bowing and it was beginning to have troubles sealing (leaking out the side before forming a full seal).

I'm getting an AA, best possible idea for a cultivator.

You might find a smaller PC that does pints better than quarts. 5-6 pints is a considerable amount of spawn.

I think (and have said many times) that you'll want a small PC later anyway, even if you have the big one too.  So there's no harm in buying the little one first.

haha its not an ordinary frying pan. its electric, goes to 400 degrees. obviously boils water, and has a lid as tight fitting as any pot. im starting to think it might even work better cuz theres more dense steam in a smaller area

Ive had the same problem with mine.

The bottom is bowing out and it is leaking from the sides.

If at all possible avoid Chinese made crap like the devil.

Some of it is just common sense too. I mean it's made for canning, for reaching 15psi for aprox 30 min. To put it at that pressure for 3 times as long as it is built for is obviously going to cause problems. I bet many people use them for years with no problems... for canning.

If at all possible avoid Chinese made crap like the devil.


Many people can get away with using small inexpensive pressure cookers for smaller amounts of spawn, while the AA is the best investment someone with a serious interest in this hobby can make.

Anybody who wants to see how grain works can also get pre-sterilized fungi bags from the sponsors, before investing in a real All American PC.

You might find a smaller PC that does pints better than quarts. 5-6 pints is a considerable amount of spawn.

This makes no sense.  Real canning requires 15 psi. for 60 to 90 minutes.  Any canner worth it's salt should be able to handle grain sterilization procedures.  If you are running the cooker at 15 psi. with water inside, you should not have warping EVER.  Otherwise, your cooker is a cheap P.O.S. end of story.

That's my utimate goal also, see em on ebay for round 500. A frying pan! Holy shit! and deep frying? gotta be from the deep south to try that one, I like fried food just as much as the next guy but that's just scary. And yes go spend the 40 bucks and go PC, you can get away without one sure but if you want results every time you have to go with the PC the whole "60 percent of the time it works every time" rule just doesn't apply to this hobby
