Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

Ya know i believe its nessesary for WWIII to happen to solve this question completely. I agree with revelation and shroomism, with this one too.

The reason we have war is because we stand divided as a world.

Fear and Greed IMO.

when everyone is dead.

LOL! But yeah, I agree with that.

The future IS war!

Is it all you want it to be?

I see it as a neccessary facet of human evolution in the primal state, but in an advanced infrastructure such as current times with space travel beginning to open up to us, information flow at an all time high, we need to be responsible.

.....Because we have reached such a level; we no longer need to help the Darwinian way of evolution. We would have evolved enough.

Although I admire the man, I have to disagree with Plato as well.  I don't think war is human nature.  I think war is in the nature of chimps.  Possibly even neanderthals, but not modern Homo sapiens!

War is the most horrible thing I can think of.  Nobody wants war.  It is the unjustified justified murder of members of our own species.  Murder is in the nature of animals with no code of ethics or morals.  That is, every animal except humans!

We are animals, yet we are so far above any other animal on this earth in so many ways.  We are smart enough to write books, to build cities, and even to split atoms.  Why can we not be smart enough to live in peace with our fellow man?

It just doesn't make sense to me.  Revelation did make a startlingly obvious point, but why is it not a reality?

I guess my answer to my own question would be that there is war because there are some unhuman humans living on this planet.  And I guess my answer to my second question would be that there could not be war when there are no longer any unhuman humans alive on the Earth.

Depressing, isn't it?

It was really interesting to see all the different thoughts and ideas that everyone brought up, though!  A lot of the things I never thought about before...

I love expanding my mind!

I don't think war is human nature.

All the evidence agrees with you. For 99.9% of human existence all the evidence points to humans living in small co-operative bands based around sharing and equality. If we met other groups we befriended them because their knowledge increased our chances of survival. It's only in the last 5000 years or so when the hoarding of food meant the minority at the top needed armies and "status" to maintain their power that war has become a feature of human life.

This is easily demonstrated by the fact that when we help each other we feel good and when we kill someone we feel bad. War has nothing to do with human nature, it's simply about the minority at the top and their greed for power and wealth. You only have to look at Iraq - anyone who says a war against Iraq is down to "human nature" is clearly out of their mind. It's about making money for oil corporations.

How can we have a 'hard-wired' nature, when our state-of-mind and behavior is always changing with our environment? Right now we have a shit-load of people all over the planet that are very afraid of each other. That means war.

'if we don't take as much as we can as fast as we can, than someone else is going to take it first.'
i think we've been stuck in this mindset since the beginning.
i also think its going to take the collapse of all governments and total anarchy to save the world. As Bill Hicks said 'Start over! The experiment didn't work!!!"
I know that's wishful thinking and we're bound to make the same mistakes again and again, but I have faith that we can get it right.

We have the technology to communicate with everyone on the earth in an instant. More communication means less fear.
