Western Washington is ALIVE!

So I snuck out at lunch today to my local forested trail area. I wasn't expecting much since we've not had much rain, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'll post up some shots of the mushrooms I found in about 1 hour of wandering around. I'm working on the IDs myself, but if something jumps out at you, feel free to call it out
White Chanterelle The slugs say "NOM NOM NOM".. Little fsckers!
Russula Brevipes (maybe?) I actually didn't "SEE" these until I was bent over looking at something else. There were just these strange bumps in the moss and duff. I lifted it up, and voilla! This guy made a large pocket for himself underground, then dumped all his spores right there underneat him. I mean, i do that too sometimes, but it's not the way to reproduce!

Russula amoenolens (maybe?) Not sure about this one at all. The keys suggest that I'm supposed to smell something with this species, but i don't. So maybe I'm off base.

Shrimp Russula Shrimp? i dunno. I think Mr. Kuo has a more accurate discription...

This Boletaceae sp. was beyond recognition. My picture doesn't do it justice, but those are all teeth marks on the top. I thought it was neat

Gymnopilus luteofolius

Sulfer Tuft Neat looking little guys when you find huge flushes of them.

Identification in progress...

Tricholomataceae sp.
I asked what these were over on Mushroom Observer. Someone thought Gymnopus peronatus, but others disagreed. The description matches pretty well though.
Identification in progress...

I'm totally adicted to this hobby. Thank good it's mostly free

Looking for some advice. Been pokin' around the woods twice now and still can't seem to find the chanterelles. I swear I must be just looking in the wrong dang area. I've been up off of Bandera and Denny Creek areas and just had no luck. Any suggestions?

Yes. Keep looking. Cantharellus cibarius doesn't like alkaline soils. It grows in rather acidic environments among spruce, beech or fir. There are other Chanterelles that prefer different environments. If you are looking for a specific mushroom, then you should know what environments they prefer.

I've been beatin' my @$$ up around the base of every fir I can find. I've heard some "word of mouth" around Ken's truck town but haven't had the time to go way back in there yet. Hope I find some soon.

The thing is, mushroomers and, especially people looking for actives are a secrative bunch. They're not just gonna hook up with some dude that joined the forum 4 posts ago.
