Miracle Grow Perlite

Hi,
I bought some "Miracle Grow Perlite" to line the bottom of my tarrarium for my cakes to grow on top of. It's "enriched with miracle grow plant food" It says it's sterile though. Will this be okay to use, or will it have some kind of negative effect due to the miracle grow in it?
I'm new to this so please forgive my ignorance.
Thanks

Well, your cakes or casings won't touch it directly, but that's not to say whatever is in it won't evaporate with the water into your mushies. Probably not a good idea to get perlite with any kind of additives.

someone just asked this question a couple days ago. People should do their research and reading before buying something from the store. If you're incapable, try laying off the peace-pipe before running your errands.

Oh, what a quality post. Thank you for that.
Good thing I decided to lay off the peace-pipe and do more research now...
I didn't use it. I happened to be in the store I was in for something else and I figured I'd save myself a trip. If I can't use it, I can return it.

Ya, I asked that a few days ago, or maybe even yesterday. I had that problem and I decided it wasn't worth the risk, so I got regular perlite. At harware stores, they may only carry miracle brand stuff, but if you go to a gardening place, you'll find a much better selection. The ferts may burn the myc.

I think the biggest risk you run is that the nutrients in the perlite will lead to the growth of potential contaminants. You might be able to avoid this by adding some H202 to the water, but if you can return it for some regular perlite, you might as well.

Been using MG Perlite for a year now. There is nothing wrong with it, other than it contains fertilizer, which helps algae to grow. It costs more too than regular perlite, but for me much more convenient to get it. If you want, you can always rinse it before and between use.
