amount of light, i'm very confused...
    #1108210 - 12/03/02 10:46 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

I'm very confused about the amount of light that is needed to induce pinning.... I have read everything from light all the time to only 1 second is need for pinning... Right now i just took a guess and have been giving them about 1 hour a day of light, is that alright or is more/less needed?

just looking for someone to clear this up for me...

thanks

The whole issue is a bit sketchy. What you have going now sounds fine. I haven't come upon any light cycles that everyone agrees on.

10 minutes is the most one hears of people doing. Part is due to ones set up and air exchange and light happen at the same time so 10 minutes....

BUT, as can be seen from this link;

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Growlog&Number=609532

you don't need even that much.....

Well per TMC it just depends on what wavelength the light is will initate pinning. But TMC recomends a 12/12 on/off cycle to initiate primordia formation. PS. Cubensis needs light to for pins. I'd try to mimick 12/12 but if u keep the right conditions (high humidity/light/fresh oxygen) pins should show just in a matter of time.

Yes, exactly. TMC is the word....

I hope to offer practicle application concepts only....

12/12 is too much light, it`s a waste.
Stick to your 1 hour regime.

From a cultivation standpoint, is it possible to have TOO much light?

Taking the jars out to look at the cultivation speed a couple seconds a day can induce pinning. Just give it light every now and then....it will pin.

I remember that post, but then there was some disgretion to how accurate his findings were, since they merely measured height, and not weight of the fruit bodies.  But good call. :wink:

I would say know, to the extent that if your using a grow light or any light which provides too much heat. You don't want your light source to burn humidity and dry out your casings. I only provide my casings with 2-5 minutes of light a day. I have no problems pinning, and as long as I provide the light in a steady manner, the growth direction remains constant.
