If using the cakes to spawn bulk you will apply casing layer when the bulk reaches 100% colonization if not. You can apply casing layer just over crumbled and crushed cakes and then when mycellium pokes thru the valleys of the casing layer initiate pinning with light/air exchanges/cold shock and then patch those areas for even pinset.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

You could choose to either fruit straight off the straw or you could case with a layer of coir/verm.
If you are only planning using verm then I`d fruit them from the straw for the first flush.
I personally have never liked plain verm asa casing layer.

Verm is too difficult to see if it needs hydrating.
Also I just generally don`t like verm except for a casing additive.

IME verm was easy to overwater and get "sealed". i think straight coir is the way to go. unless your rh is under 60%, i don't think it will dry out that fast. coir also works well with perlite, verm seems to get too wet(but that's probably related to the difficulty of knowing when to water verm).

Fruit those bad boys! If you're feeling adventurous, you could dump the formed straw loaves out of the tins and fruit them as straw cakes.

Those are lookin' might tasty, Supabeav!

Don't dunk right now, and don't mist the straw directly. Just keep your terrarium's moisture levels nice and high. After the first flush you can decide whether or not to dunk your cake. If it's fruiting prolifically, you might wait until after the second flush to dunk. The casing you treat just like any other casing.

maintain a low humidity for tha casing while providing the needs for a higher humidity for the cake??...jus wondering
