We're 30,000 light years away from the center of the galaxy.  Even if something catastrophic happens at the center of the galaxy at this very moment it won't affect us for another 30,000 years.  We should be more worried about the 10 trillion dollar debt that our country has accumulated over the years.

I take it your concern arises from a common misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar.  The 2012 date does indeed correlate with the galactic center, otherwise known as the "Dark Rift."  But some misinterpret this to mean that on 2012 the solar system will actually cross the galactic equator and be subjected to increased levels of radiation.  This misunderstanding is so common that even the History Channel reported it as such.  In matter of fact, the 2012 date has more to do with the relative position of the sunrise to the Dark Rift as seen from Earth.  It's about the precession of equinoxes, not the much longer cycle of our solar system going above and below the galactic equator.

True, if something did happen 30,000 years ago we would just be getting wind of it now.  But I have no idea what could possibly happen to a black hole that have an effect on objects that are 30,000 light years away.  Do you?  This black hole is 176,354,994,000,000,000 miles away; it's been chilling there for millions, if not billions of years, and I don't think there's any reason to think that will change.

As for what's going to happen in 2012: this video may clear things up.


2012 may be the apocalypse... if we want it to be.  It could be an awakening, a rise of the New World Order, an enslavement, or nothing at all.  What happens in 2012 depends entirely on your actions and mine.  We will decide the fate of 2012 and our species.

This black hole is necessary to the balance. Just as we orbit the sun, our solar system orbits the black hole. I would be more worried if it wasnt there cause there would be no gravity well to hold our galaxy together.
