I don't think there is a dispute, just a dislike for the continues change in the taxonomy of fungi. Again, this is just what I perceive, and not the opinion of others, obviously. It doesn't bother me however, I try to use updated taxonomy, but communication is the point of taxonomy, and I think everyone can still do that just fine.

Mr.Mushrooms, that looks like a good article, I'll be sure to check that out later tonight.

If I recall correctly from previous conversations, Mr. Mushrooms is opposed to differentiating species based on chemotaxonomy or genetic evidence.

That's somewhat correct though the answer is far more detailed and infinitely boring.  You have a great memory, Entropymancer.  In this case, however, has much more to do with correction than correctness.  What I vehemently oppose is, or are, NNN's (New Name Nazi's).  Someone posts the more popular, and in some instances more correct, name only to have Mr. or Mrs.  Snigglesworth leap to the fore and "correct" them.  Whatever excuses can be offered for such behavior they stink.  I don't like that and I'm not alone.

In this instance I have absolutely no problem with the renaming of the mushroom because Dr. Tulloss, unlike so many others in the field, actually has respect for morphology as well as the DNA.  I prefer the Friesian concept because it focuses on what we actually know without hypothesizing--the direct morphology of the mushroom.  (I would accept the inclusion of genetic evidence with the following stipulation.)  What we don't know--and never will with the same exactitude--is the history, or interconnections, between the types.
