Police raid 100 SA homes in drugs crackdown
September 17, 2009 - news.com.au
AAP

THIRTEEN people were arrested as police in South Australia raided more than 100 homes today in a crackdown on illegal drugs.

Police said raids were conducted across Adelaide and in various country centres with a further 39 people reported for drug offences and another 53 fines issued for drug possession.

Officers seized hundreds of thousands of dollars in drugs including nine kilograms of cannabis, 193 cannabis plants, nine grams of heroin, 11 grams of cocaine and 93 ecstasy tablets.

They also seized firearms, more than $100,000 in cash and $100,000 worth of stolen goods.

Among those arrested the most serious were a 34-year-old man who was charged with trafficking in heroin, a 34-year-old man charged with cultivating cannabis, a 28-year-old man charged with trafficking in cocaine and a two men from Whyalla charged with drug cultivation.

Detective Superintendent Scott Duval of the Drug Investigation Branch said while the arrests and raids were not linked, Thursday's operation highlighted the efforts of police to combat the illicit drug trade.

He said the raids, involving 250 officers, were the result of information received from the public and from other investigations.

"This is a very clear message about the way we view the illicit drug trade and our efforts to get these drugs off the streets,'' Supt Duval said.

"It's not so much about the dollar value (of the drugs) but the harm that these drugs cause.

"Drugs and crime are clearly linked and what we've shown today is that with a concerted effort we can get these drugs off the street.''

Supt Duval said more arrests were possible as a result of today's raids.

In other words, "for one hundred homes with people who had records, we didn't find alot" and
Who was harmed? The people going to prison for their drugs, that's who.

Yeah People smoke pot and therefore disobey laws because it's illegal. You're only getting a small percentage off the street.

All we need is one more raid and just one more oppressive law and then we can save society from themselves!!  No cost to families or individuals is too high, as long as we can take a non-descript amount of drugs off the streets.  This is a war, on drugs, and you are a combatant.  No cost is too high!
