aren't those dark to be cantharellus cibarius?
i thought i had some gyms a while back, and but i was told they were actually "honey" mushrooms. now i'm looking at those orange ones in wonder; they look very similar to my untrained eyes. now, correct me if i'm wrong:
1) all three spcies mentioned grow in wood chips?
2) all three appear orange?
3) which of the three have veils?
4)spore print of gyms = umber, brownish/orangish
" " " honey = white
" " " cantharellus cibarius = ???

is all this info given in the books i see pushed fervently in other threads?

yeah, you can find any of that info in any field guide, really. I'd go for audubon society field guide to north america

a million details in your reply need clarification.

those pictures are of boletus edulis and cantharellus cibarius.
the cantharellus are a bit watery, thus the deeper orange color, especially at the base of the stipe.  Neither of these species is found in wood chips.
they are both mycorhizal species that form relationships with the root tips of certain species of tree, in this case mostly hemlocks and other coastal, boreal pines.
there is no chance of anyone with a few books and a little experience confusing these species, especially the chanterelles with gymnopilus spp.  the gyms have rusty brown spore prints, chanterelles are yellowy-ish to peachy-ish.

some, but not all, honey mushrooms have veils.  armillaria tabescens comes to mind on the non-veil tip.  some, but not all gymnopilus species will have veils.
no boletus will have veils, unless they're suillus (hehe).

chanterelles do not have veils.  chanterelles do not grow from wood.

please buy some field guides and do some reading.  it is simply the best way to learn about mushrooms.  you need to be familiar with the characteristics of each genera of mushrooms before you decide to debate the id's of various "similar" species.
hope this helped some.  peace and happy hunting.
oh, and the mushrooms you see were consumed heartily....good eatin.
peace
