possible gymnopolis junonius?
    #11047777 - 09/12/09 08:21 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

found these guys today just 3 of them just started popping up, we will be checking back in two days to check on them to see if anymore show up and to see these more matured.  Do these look like they belong to the gymnopolis genera?  That's the only genera that came to mind when i saw them.

Habitat:
Found in the woods near some dead leaves and dried out tree wood, mostly a conifer and deciduous forest, right on the edge.  Found them around 3:45ish had a pretty big rain the night before and the temperature was around 68F.

Gills:
still waiting will edit this in a few days hopefully

Stem:
1cm, 9mm, tan"esque", lightly fibrous, seemed solid, thick

Cap:
1.2cm, deeper tan more orange shade in two of them, kind of rough smooth but not bald, spherical, convex.  margin was connected to the stem it looked.

Spore print color:
waiting until they mature to take one.

Bruising:
didn't disturb them.

Other information:
these were still young but I want to know if i'm headed in the right species direction with these, I will edit this post when we go back to check up on them.

Any help? =)

if they where chantarelles, yes. there is no way to be sure what they are yet.

btw: Genera is plural. the word you're looking for is Genus.

so went back today they weren't much bigger but I took one of them and sliced the veil and it had a porous tubes instead of gills, so it's a type of bolete the tubes were white and the color was unchanged.  So it's a no go on the gyms :-(  wish I could find some though.....

Haha don't worry I'm still gonna go back out, I think my problem is that I need to switch up locations.  We've foraged this entire set of woods lol, and the conclusion is that the amanitas have dominated, it's mostly a conifer forest, so my next stop is a deciduous forest!  But man i swear  i wish i could replace all the Russulas that we found for Morels haha. will definitely keep hunting.
