Help with Cubensis, yellow tanish stems?
    #11046968 - 09/12/09 03:03 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Hi I'm new to the whole growing thing and I tried the search engine I couldn't find any questions similar to mine.

I'm growing Psilocybe cubensis using the cake method and my cakes are on their second flush but I'm noticing that the stems are a yellow/tanish color that gets whiter as it goes down the stem. I might be wrong but isn't the stem suppose to white?  If I remember the first flush they didn't have this discoloration and the cakes themselves seem to be fine except for a few spots that are bruised so what is wrong with them?

Also the stems are really thick and the caps seem small for there size should I be worried?

Any help appreciated!
Sorry if this is a newbie question.

The fruits could be drying out a bit. My fruits don't always have pure white stems. They will often have a tanish look to them. I honestly never gave it much thought. They are more than likely just fine.

As long as the stems bruise the right color, I wouldn't be worried.  White/white-ish.  Seems good.  Blue/green bruising is what matters to me.  I mean, you are growing these.  I would worry more about stem-color in mushrooms you were picking wild.

I get that on occasion. When i first started i thought it was a contam or something. It's never been an issue. Also, stems get thicker and the fruits larger in later flushes. It's normal.
