Fruiting
    #1103991 -

Last Tuesday, I birthed a cake which now doesn't show any signs of fruiting. There are now spikes of mycelium but I'm not sure if they have been there or not. I'm giving them about 4 hours of light a day. They are in an airtight container with perlite and the humidity is ok, I'm sure. The temp is in the mid 70s, room temperature. I birthed it right after it was 100% colonized and didn't wait for pinheads to show up in vitro. Is there a problem or does it just need more time??? Also, what would putting damp vermiculite on the top of the cake do???

The wet verm on top i dont know what that would do for it

If conditions are right, I've found that 7-10 days is about right to start seeing pins develop. Give it some more time, it'll be peachy.

yea, i think FredGarvin is right...i actually have my mycobag cakes cut in 1/2 & stored in cereal bowls on top of a damp paper towel, with a heating pad under the bowls & a big baggie around them.  i mist them 2-3x daily (the direct heat from the pad makes me have to mist more).  and yes, about 10 days ago is when i birthed them from their bags, and 1 has about 20pins, and the other is just starting to pin.  i'm very happy with this method!!

Well, you should't be....
I waited 2 weeks and only got one mushie!  I then crumpled my five cakes and cased them with wet vermiculite and within a week i was picking shrooms almost everyday for the next four weeks! (i pick them as they come so i dont have overmaturers...)
Boo to PF if you dont have THIER spores.......

you could try the double casing tek with the verm on top if the cakes are too dry. I dunked my cake and the added the verm layer on top and it seemed to help pinning.

you could also try the straw tek. It seems to help a lot, and replaces dunking.

Well, I cased one cake in a small verm casing. A 5x8 container. I believe I'm cutting it close, but I'm willing to take my chances.

I've just cased, and I have pins, and i thought it would take forever, but just try to ignore them, and forget about them, except for fanning them every 8 hr. My largest pin is 1/4 inch and I have 90% humidity b/c I couldn't get it ANY higher. I have perlite and I even tried to sprey for a while in hopes to increase humidity, but it just remained around 90%.

I reccomend just waiting a lil more.

I've searched the house over looking for one. I don't have one. How much would one run me? How else could I bring it up? I don't understand why it's not 95-100% like the humidity faq page said. It has a whole buncha teks.
