My advice: set a schedule and stick to it, especially bedtime.
It's hard at first, but once you get into the rhythm of working nights, you might come to like it. I know I did for a while.

Oh, no- there's a whole other 'third shift' society. :yesnod: Just gotta go find it.
It's like that book where the guy lives on Wednesdays, but he falls in love with a Tuesday girl.

I work 3rd been doing it for 2 1/2 years get drunk in the mornings you get all day to do what you need or want, don't have to worry aout getting enough sleep once you get used to it.  I was naturally an insomniac so I don't know what to tell you about how to get used to it.

I worked graveyard as a valet driver for a couple months. It was weird, but cool at the same time(I'm usually open to new experiences). The first night was the hardest, I had to intoxicate myself on coffee to stay up. My sleep cycle adjusted to sleep during the day(from 10am to 5PM) and then go to my shift from 10:30PM-7AM.

It got pretty boring during the wee hours, I usually chatted with security/managers who would pass by every once in a while--ya kinda learn to be patient though. For me, it was until some hot shot snapped at me to get his SL55 AMG from the garage :-p

It's a lot easier if you stay up 24 hrs a couple days prior to starting then go to sleep when you expect to get home and get a head start on the routine before your job actually starts.

I try to get four hours whether it's in the morning or before I go in at 11PM, as long as it's dark and quiet.  Just some down time to read even if I don't feel tired.  Trying to stick to schedules just frustrates me.  I try to plan ahead and 'charge' or 'drain' my battery as needed for life/work.

No matter what it seems there's always one day of the week where I'm awake at least 30 hours.  Learn the power of napping.  As long as you can unwind when you get home, everything else falls into place.

I try to get good sleep at the beginning of the week and start getting ready for my weekend about half way through the week.  Good Luck.  Also, look for taverns that open at 6AM for other tips.

I work at a casino on third shift - or "swing shift", as it is referred to in the casino industry - and I absolutely hate it. I enjoy the job, but working from 8pm - 4am on a regular basis can really fuck with your sleeping patterns. I try to live like a normal person, but I always find myself staying up until 6am and sleeping til at least 2pm. My plan is to eventually swap to day shift as I do actually enjoy the sun.
