Straw from pet store as a bulk sub ingredient?

PetSmart sells a pillow-sized plastic bag full of "Sweet Meadow Straw" that is marketed as a bedding for small animals. It's yellow and most definitely just straight up straw, but the "quality" is poor. Many of the stalks are 12" long with a wheaty/grassy end, and about 4" below the wheat end the stalk becomes very then and more like a needle than a straw.

Is this an acceptable source of straw to be used with an Hpoo bulk sub? Also, if so... should the upper portion of the straw stalk be discarded in favor of the bottom, more "straw-like" end?

What is the primary benefit of adding straw to a bulk sub? For nutes, and to add texture/fluffiness to the sub?

I would not bother adding straw to a tray of hpoo unless the hpoo was very composted. If there are still fibrous chunks in the poo your texture will be more than adequate.
