Birthing and misting question
    #11030907 - 09/09/09 09:52 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I just got done with my dunk and roll on 1/2 pint BRF cakes.  Dunked for 14 hours and then rolled in dry verm.  I let them sit in the FC for 35 minutes on foil before I misted them, per RR's video.  I noticed that after misting the dry verm layer I have several water droplets on the foil under the cakes.  I know that standing water is a breeding ground for cantams, is this a gonna be a problem for me?  I didn't spray the cakes directly, I misted over the top of the FC and let the mist fall into it.  Thanks for your replies guys/gals.

Will do on the next set of cakes.  I am trying this first round as a learner and if I goof, lucky me has 8 more colonizing now.  Definitely go 24 on the next batch just to compare.  I will post a pic tomorrow of my setup and see what you guys think.

Yeah, you're fine. I've had cakes last 6 flushes that were sitting next to water droplets or in a little pool of water. :super:

I wouldn't reccomend doing that, though. :rotfl:

Here is another quick question while I have your attention.  Do I need to use h2o2 in the misting water?  If so up until what point?  I misted the perlite down with a H2O2 mix before putting th cakes in as a precaution.  But did not use any the first time I misted the rolled cakes.

No problem at all.  I also have had water droplets on my foils and never had problems. My setup looks just like this and I had water on the foils all the time.  Just remember to mist and FAN them good.

No need for H2O2 just use water. Fruiting chambers are not sterile environments nor will they ever be every time you fan its bringing in shit in the air but its all good once the myc is got ahold its pretty resilient

a lot of people dont recomend it, but I have always had good luck with instead of using tin foil or anything between the cake and the perlite, having a thin layer of vermiculite on the bottom of the cake and placing it right on the perlite.

it seems to just absorb the moisture right out of the perlite through the verm. and promote slightly bigger fruits since I dont do much casing

So here are the pics of the newborns.  Less than 12 hours old so far.

I gotta feeling waiting for the pins is going to be like waiting for the Myc to start.  I cured that the second time around by doing up more jars so those don't even get messed with.  At least the Wife gave me a ton of honey do's to keep me busy (and her happy with this project)  I will keep you all posted.
