cake rot.

if you don't pick aborts can they cause an entire cake to rot or just any mushrooms growing nearby? sometimes it gets hard for me to pick aborts because they are overgrown by larger shrooms and i just can't get to them. so, one cake finished its first flush and i dunked it. i picked of as many aborts as i could before i did so, but i left a few pins on there that looked viable. i took it out today after 24 hours and noticed that it was pretty blue in some places but darker blue in the areas where i had picked aborts from. not only that, a few pins were deep blue as well...i picked one off that was so blue it almost looked black. to sum up... this cake had its fair share of aborts and i might have missed picking some for different reasons. now the cake smells kinda funny... not bad or anything, just weird... yeasty i guess is the best way i can describe it. anyway, what should i do? toss this cake? should i pick any and all pins that are bluish or is this just pins bruising very easily? can aborts ruin a cake if not picked? at this point, i've gotten all of what i think were the aborts, but there are a few little pins that have a bluish green tint to them... given the color and smell of the cake, i feel i should ask for advice on this. thanks.
