Amanita Muscaria? ID help please

Habitat:
Found on the edge of a wooded area, growing about 3 feet away from the edge.  There were definitely Pine and Oak in these woods, located in Middle River, Maryland, United States, found around 2:30 afternoon.

Gills:
White, attached, gills, close together but clean.

Stem:
3-4cm long, 1 1/2 cm in diameter, white, smooth for the most part, solid, thick, had the swollen base, as well as flaky parts on the base

Cap:
it was almost completely round kind of ovular, red with a hint of yellow (beneath the surface?), smooth with white warts, starting out kinda yellow in the button/pin stages.

Spore print color:
the first one was white, taking 2 more currently to verify.

Bruising:
didn't notice any bruising

Other information:
some had partial veils some didn't.  They grew gregariously? clusters, were only in a young stage, but were plentiful in the area.  Going back to take better pics, we had just happened upon these and took a picture with my cellphone.

Note:  For some reason it had a gravity about it, it almost pulled me in, either i was dumbfounded as this is the first time i've seen a red amanita species, or maybe it really is "the food of the gods" ;-)

To verify Amanita species we need to see the base of the stem. Hopefully you dug up the entire base of the stems and can photograph them and show them to us.

They look like they probably are A. muscaria, but there are lookalikes. So we need to see those stem bases before an accurate ID can be made.

yea we dug up a few and left a lot, I'm going back tomorrow to take much better pictures with my digital camera, I'll get the gills, stalk, base, and cap close up so you can see everything clearly.  Thank you for responding :-)

Very nice, red fly agaric is rare in the eastern U.S.
It's possible these are transplanted A. muscaria from Europe.

Yea that could have been half the reason i was dumbfounded, if it is indeed fly agaric, then the magic found us haha.  It has kind of motivated me to hunt for pan subbs which are widely known in the area.

there not that rare i find muscaria every year in north georgia. just look in thick pine forests and you will come across them.Found some a few days ago ill post a pic later today. nice finds though they look nice, if you have never found them before might i suggest instead of trying to eat them which is not worth the drying process and stomach ache imo but if you peel the caps and dry the skin out its awsome when you smoke the dry pieces. Make sure you get us some better pcs of the bulb just to be 100% but they look like argaric to me.

Yes can you please tell us the effects of smoking? I have not found a clear description of that yet.  Also does anyone know how long there survivability would be in any single area?

The real Amanita muscaria and Amanita amerimuscaria dont occur in the southeast.

Your probably finding A. muscaria var. persicina, its  actually not a variation of muscaria,  its own species yet to be published.

I dont recommended smoking them, dry them in the sun and make a tea, or use small amounts fresh.

Just looked them up and they definitely are not them because these were much redder than the persicina variety also still going back today to check and see if any matured so i can get a better sporeprint.

Will do man, probably gonna hunt for some pan subbs today and possibly some BL Gymns since i know a few places that these both could be.  Maybe even look for psilocybe ovoideocystidiada which they say has been found here in MD, USA.  Whatever I find you'll all get to see! =)

what is the season for them? fall? because our temps have been going up and down steadily and we've had some decent humidity the last few months just curious

P. ovoideocystidiata, on rare occasions will fruit as late as November but the season is usually done by early-mid July.
