Moist perlite in a transparent rubbermaid.

I agree w/ you about the dual-chamber design and how the drip-sheild basically cuts your surface area of grow space in half. Does the drip-sheild have to be at a 45 degree angle to be effective? What if the bottom edge of the drip-sheild met the enclosure 5 inches above the bottom, instead of AT the bottom? The angle would not be as sharp, but it would allow you to use the second half of the enclosure. I've never tried it this so I don't know how effective it would be. What do you peops think?

Well it depends on how you are growing, if you are using PF Cakes then perlite humidification would be your best bet, but if your into casings you need not do much other than a misting here and there.

If you want bigger yeilds you should try casings until you succeed.  My average flush off a casing is in the teens, for a 2 1/2 pint brf cased in 50/50+.

Casings don't really required added humidity since they provide humidity themselves.  You can use much less perlite, if any at all, when using casings.  With that said, you do have to keep them in a closed environment (in a rubbermaid, seran wrap, etc.) with occasional mistings.

If I were you, I'd spend more time getting my tecnique down, and less time worrying about my equipment, and I don't mean that in a condescending way .  Good luck, and try casings, you'll see the difference.

In reply to:

Isn't the perlite kinda annoying to clean and maintain or is there an easy way?

It's actually quite simply, with little if any maintainence (maybe an occasional misting with h202 solution, and changing if you get contams.) . But if you are doing casings, I'm beginning to think perlite is unecessary.
