Re: Communist Manifesto: The Breaking Point [Re: JackofSpades]

This is where I get off the boat.  Although I sympathize with the plight of the working class and the desire to see conditions improve for workers, I don't see the capitalist mode of production as inherently exploitative.  I think that once we solve the problem of money and land rents, the playing field will be leveled, so that capitalists will have to compete for workers, rather than the other way around.

I do think that everyone should study Marx, as he is widely misunderstood by supporters and opponents alike.  He made some valuable and often overlooked contributions to philosophy, sociology, and economics.  But I do not think his predictions have come to pass as he predicted.  Why is it that the Soviet state, rather than withering away into communism, instead withered away into capitalism?  I do not consider communism a realistic goal.  If it is, I certainly do not see it occurring by means of a socialist revolution.  If it is inevitable, then so be it.  But let it happen on its own.

By the way, if you really want to learn about Marx, you need to read Capital.  The Communist Manifesto was just a rallying cry, and was probably written more by Engels than Marx.  Engels was more of an activist.  Marx was the scholar.

I think the distinction between communism and socialism is clear - one has a closed political system and one does not.

I'm reading Marx's communist manifesto for my sociology class and listening to what he says about the inevitable collapse of capitalism due to workers being fucked over by in-sustainability and the exploitive nature of globalism it kind of had me thinking that we may be at this point.

Perhaps the communism, or rather a revolt against capitalism is about to be under way...Just look at the current state of affairs and the direction this country/world seems to be heading in.

We honestly just can't keep living in this hyper-productive consumer capitalist mode.

I feel like the breaking point of capitalist society is just around the corner and a new global society is about to be ushered in. It is just a feeling, but looking around it does not seem logically irrational.

Thoughts?

The problem you seem to avoid is that what you describe is a result of Government imposed coercive taxation and monopoly on violence rather than Any "Corporations exploiting and raping everything they can".
