Yes, that's good enough, and all you really need to know to satisfy curiosity, because there are so many different variables to those, as you said, perfect conditions.

I was referring to Dim's question in the original post about mushrooms being that sensitive, and the comparison to them living outside, as opposed to inside amongst hepa filters. The stress was on the importance of sterile procedures and habits, because though they do grow outside, they are that sensitive.

I just haven't seen here an explanation as to what would play into that "luck"; how perfect conditions can be created for mushroom mycelium outside, but the clearly more aggressive and plentiful molds and other growths that exist, don't interfere. That would require a full understanding of what other organisms exist in each area, and what they require to thrive compared to what mushroom mycelium requires, and that would be too much to explain for any reasonable person, especially here (which is why I haven't seen it.)

The common advice is to start with cubensis, and that would be fine, but their may be an even easier alternative, and that's a sclerotia producing species.  You would essentially be growing psilocybin truffles.

The Cervantes thread "Easier than Cubes" is linked in my sig.  The lid tek goes very well with it

I've got an LC of Jalisco and some agar plates nearly done sitting here, with some filter bags in the mail. Can't wait to play around with them.

im sure there are some folks that frequent advanced mycology who could give a more detailed explanation, in fact, i know there some, such as workman.
I think the answer is prolly here if you look hard enough, its just that those people who are advanced enough to know prolly spend more time in a lab than they do online:thumbup:

Thanks for replies everybody!

You have to develop your own way, the different methods are set out so you can follow a recipe and get results, and in the process, learn how the organisms live and develop. Once you understand how mushrooms and their mycelium grow, what they require, and how to get them to do so, you can tweak things, build your own setups, and go from there. Most guides don't really explain the organisms lifecycle, but if that's what you're interested in, as opposed to firsthand experience, you might look into reading paul stamets books.

Pretty much the first thing I read here was "Whatever you do, do not improvise, follow the TEK".. which I found pretty constrictive. I usually like to learn how things work, and then improvise whatever I wish to do.

I guess the best way to learn how the things work is firsthand experience. But there's also saying that you should learn from others mistakes, rather than your own ones.

The thing I was looking for when I first started to research on this subject was a "guide" on what shrooms need to grow. As then I could improvise the growing method with stuff I know I can get without ordering overseas or something and with the budget I have. But I haven't found such thing  I think I should read on general subject of mushrooms to learn that rather than learning about growing specific medicinal and such shrooms indoors, which I have done so far.

But it is probably better to not improvise, at least on first try.

========================

On the subject of "grow-room vs nature"...

I understand that in nature there are much, much more variables that affect the growth. But I still believe it is possible to replicate it rather than remove most of these variables like you do when you sterilize everything. But as I don't know what exactly are these variables in nature I don't know how to do it. And if it's practical to do so.

Basically what I mean is... if there's the "Bad Bacteria" which doesn't let shrooms to grow.. and the "Good Bacteria" which helps the shrooms to grow and eliminates the bad bacteria. Then why not 'grow' the good bacteria as well, with the shrooms? Create your little ecosystem

And once again.. I do not know what I am talking about

if you are overwhelmed by all the teks and jargon then i suggest simply start with the pf tek. RogerRabbit's Lets Grow Mushrooms videos on the pf tek are a wonderful visual instruction and a perfect starting point for beginners.

^ Ouch, haha.

Seriously though. Before you start, take a good couple weeks to read and understand the process, at least the basic PF Tek, as well as a fruiting chamber tek (I suggest the shotgun), and if you're feeling ambitious, research grains a bit.

The trick is to have patience and break it down into baby steps. Like with a foreign language:
If you just move to the country you'll be totally lost for a while. If you learn some of the language, then have casual conversation and move up to more complex things you'll do much better.

exactly....

dude, just save yourself some time, money, and heartache and just start with the pftek, follow it to the T.
After that you will have some understanding how it works, than you may be able to do a bulk method, in which you will learn even more.

DO NOT try to improvise on your first try!

This is not rocket science, but, it is something that only comes with experience and ability to follow strict instructions.
This is why the developers of the pftek introduced the pftek, up until then there was no easy to follow way for an average person to grow mushrooms.

Dont think that common scence will guide you, there are many that thought this same thing, including me, and they all fail miserably.

its as simple as following directions.

I will say no more, i am not a "GOD" on the subject but i know what i know and am just trying to point you in the right direction.

Goodluck:thumbup:

Read stamets books, that's your general guide. Mushroom cultivator, and growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. You'll learn about what they need with those.

You don't have to order from overseas most likely, no matter how you decide to grow them, well, according to where you live. Everything can be purchased locally minus maybe the spores. PF tek costs like $20-40 according to what you already have. I had vermiculite, perlite (gardening) and a pot, a lamp to use. All I needed was spores, brown rice flour, jars and a tub for a FC when I first started out.

No matter what your conclusion though, learning from your mistakes as opposed to others is going to cost you a lot more in the long run.
