How easy is it to poison yourself in the UK & Ireland?

Okay, I'm sorry for the noob question, but it'd be very reassuring to hear that you'd have to be extremely stupid to mistake any poisonous mushroom for P.semilanceata.
I've heard that there are none in the UK & Ireland,is this true or not true to t he best of your knowledge?
I've done my homework, think I've found genuine libs, but I'm still very nervous that I've incorrectly ID'd them, so your input would really put my mind at ease!
Thanks

My suggestion is to take some pictures and post them here for a proper ID. It isn't wise to eat mushrooms that you are not 100% sure of.

There are many poisonous mushrooms in the UK & Ireland. Any area that has mushrooms is almost guaranteed to have both poisonous and psilocybin containing species.

as far as i know and thats not a lot. P.semilanceata is fairly safe if your picking on mature well used farm land. P.semilanceata drys white as said above find someone that knows them well to id them for you. once you get a feel for them you could do it blindfolded. stay away from the other species especaly wood lovers as a fup there can kill you by a slow and painfull death and they look almost identical

Libs are fairly safe. I don't think there are many poisonous mushrooms that resemble Psilocybe semilanceata. That does not mean you should eat them if you are not positive of it's ID.
Libs are the easiest to pick for beginners seeing as how there aren't any deadly lookalikes.
As said before though, the woodlovers have some deadly lookalikes, at least to the beginner.

Galerina venenata grows in the same grassland habitat, looks similar and has killed people.

This Galerina sp. was sharing the same habitat with libs, could this be Galerina venenata?

That looks so unlike them though...
I've never seen any lookalikes. The nipple is the dead giveaway. Like the top of a wizards hat.

I guess it comes down to what you think 'looks like' means, and how varied you'd expect mushrooms to be. I wouldn't mistake a liberty cap for a galerina venenata but some people might.
The first time I went hunting I thought I found a liberty cap. It was small, pointy/coned light-brown cap, thin stem etc. But when I got it home and researched it, turns out it it was deadly poisonous and looked nothing like a liberty cap. Not sure what species it was but it had highly defined white gills
So billyrubin, if you familiarise yourself with LOTS of liberty cap photos, and follow the threads on here (especially UK threads), it's hard to go wrong really

Yes it could be.
There are also many Galerina species that are small and conical, similar to Conocybe. They usually grow from moss.

Venenata looks nothing like libs. I didn't say that deadly mushrooms don't grow in grass, just that no poisonous lib lookalikes grow in grass.
Paul Stamets:
"When trying to identify a mushroom to species using macroscopic features, you are at best making an educated guess. Some species like Psilocybe semilanceata, leave little room for confusion. Others may be difficult to pinpoint without closer study."
"(on P. semilanceata) Perhaps the most unusual form I have found is one that looks dangerously close to a Galerina but is in fact a denuded, nearly sporeless, orange form of P. semilanceata. With sparse spore production, the color of the overlying translucent flesh shows a yellowish orange color instead of its normal purplish brown."
He does say too though:
"Also, there is a great deal of similarity between mycenoid Galerinas, Psilocybe pelliculosa, and P. semilanceata.
I am not saying that a mistake can't be made, just that as far as I have understood Libs are one of the safest active mushrooms to identify, with very few poisonous lookalikes.
I hope this clears anything I said that may have been confusing or incorrect up.
Happy Hunting!
