Tough Simple Problem... Preparing Coir
    #11016841 - 09/07/09 08:05 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Okay perhaps you guys can offer some insight. Tough problem. With probably a simple solution.

I'm using a pressure cooker and boiling 9 quarts of water. 2 bricks of coir. 2 quarts of verm. and 2 quarts of spent coffee grounds. I want to pour this whole concoction in a 5 gallon tub and then seal it to cool over night. Now when I pour the pressure cookers contents into the tub it kind of sticks to the sides and then all falls out at once. So a huge clump falls down where 1/4 of the bulk substrates falls on the floor.

Could I pick up the stuff on the floor and just throw it in the tub? Or is this risking the pasteurization? Second what can I do to prevent a 1/4 of it falling onto the floor each time?

If I'm getting you right... I think simply propping up the pot on an adjacent chair and scooping out the mix with a big ass spoon or clean ladle. Just make sure its super clean.

Dr. Egon Spengler: Print is dead.

Janine Melnitz: Oh, that's very fascinating to me. I read a lot myself. Some people think I'm too intellectual but I think it's a fabulous way to spend your spare time. I also play raquetball. Do you have any hobbies?

Dr. Egon Spengler: I collect spores, molds, and fungus.
