What's it supposed to look like?
    #11015854 - 09/07/09 04:56 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

SWIM has noticed some condensation on the inside of one of his jars.  He is wondering if he should seperate that jar from the other one? He doesnt think that its contaminated (it doesnt look like it) but then again, this is his first attempt at growing so he isnt really sure what the mycelium is supposed to look like.  He looked but couldnt find up close pictures of what healthy mycelium looks like.  Could you guys let me know if his jars look contaminated based on the pics?

PS in the future,
Take the foil off after PC and leave it off.
Never lay the jar on it's side.

i've heard mixed things about taking the foil off, does it really matter significantly? should he take it off now?  the jars in the pictures are at about 10 days after inoculation.  would taking the foil off help it grow faster?

Normally, the second answer would be yes, but the jars have already been covered and sideways and everything. Normally, you remove right after PCing and wipe any excess water. Then the dry verm layer protects from contaminates and allows for enough gas exchange, speeding up colonization.

Would I remove the foil now? Yes
Should you? That's your call, I don't want to be blamed if it contaminates.

aright thanks,

He'll take the foil off the jar that seems to be slow in colonizing.
