it's at about 1.5 grams per 44-45 grams of brown rice (quite low). this may vary some among brands/sources.

the fatty looking substance you spoke of is likely some sort of contam. unscrew the lid a bit, don't take it off, and give it a sniff.

sorry, but check your sterilization proceedures. it could also be the syringe used.

Why?
Maybe mostly all of us are newbies like you, and all the pros are doing something else... I asked a Q today, or yesterday I forgot, no one answered... life's like that :frown:

But I haven't even innocululated them yet. I used a brand new pressure cooker, 15lbs of pressure for 45 minutes and then let the jars cool natuarlly over night without realsing pressure in the pot. contaminents are highly unlikely don't you think?

i'm not sure if you specified this in your first post, but if so i didn't notice.

at this point, yes. it's probably too early for visible contams. it may just be condensation or lime (from your water) on the side of the jar.

it's not fat.. that you can be sure of, unless you substituted vermiculite with pork.

I used some high dollar bottled water. Would that still contain lime?

If your having trouble with the fat content in BRF you may want to consider trying Diet BRF, although I hear it really doesn't taste the same.
