How does this incubation sound?

I innouclated about 5 or 6 days ago. Using half pint jars, the strain is south american from "the little guy". I put them in my snake's (Mr. Sneaks) cage. I use an 85 watt blue halogen bulb over his cage. It is about 1 to 1.5 feet from the tops of the jars. They arent hot, but warmer than they were in my closet. I am starting to see very pale, faint white blotches on the inside of the jars. Is this the mycellum? Or does this setup sound bogus? Oh yea, my snake regards the jars indifferantly and he doesnt bother them.

it will probably work.
altho if possible dont use filter patches or open innoc holes because the air surrounding the jars will be totally dry and will dry your jars out over time if they are open.
Then theres the problem about having all that light about......incubators should be dark.....im not sure how you will be able to sort this one.

Yep, try to keep the glass covered. It does not take much light to initiate pinning, so make sure it is as dark as possible. Good Luck

sounds like you found the filthiest place possible to incubate, but they should be ok anyway. as for light i have had jars colonize no problem out in the open and others starting pinning, i think it depends on how photosensitive your strain is.

did you realy mean a snake's cage?, if not:
first off, the white's probably mycelium. is it at the innoculation site(s)? second, what in the rh in the room you growin and what is the temp around your jars (the rh isn't realy an issue unless it's exessively dry, that pluss the light so close will dry out your jars in a hurry)? move the light back quite a bit. be careful you don't dry out your jars. all in all, it sound's good. although it realy depends on your sterilization and innoculation proceedures.
if you realy mean you're incubating in a snake cage, i don't know what to tell you.

Well, i just figured it was warmer. I saw no signs in 5 days in my closet so i figured it was too cold. So i just popped them in there. There is a shit load of growth at the innoc points, so i think its doing alright. i will just probably move them now.
