for those of you who are reading this just because you are looking to attack someone about the search key and all that shit, stop reading, go into your bathroom and fuck yourself. for those of you reasonable enough to still be with me thank you, i have a very simple and i am sure very easy question, will a widemouth tapered 1 pint jar work instead of a half pint? i just plan on filling it like half full, but not sure about the big pocket of air that will be at the top.

Yes it will work. but fill it like you normally would a half pint. If you don't there is no way you'll get a syringe long enough to inject into the sub. Expect a longer colonization time aswell, and remember to not pack it down, put the sub in nice and fluffy. That is the main problem with full pint jars.
good luck.

it will work! The reason why people do not recommend larger jars for pf tek is that they take longer giving the opportunity for contams. Most noobs do MS(multisore) and that can take 3-10 days to see any signs. Half can pints take 10-21 days to fully colonize and full pint twice the time on everything. Some people do full pints! If you do don't get them too wet and they have a chance.

if you can keep everything extra sterile and contam free then pint jars can be fun..even with brf and verm. you can shake them for fast colonization times. and oh yeah. use the search engine.

Not gonna work, if your spores land on the verm layer, it will contaminate.
VV This was meant for op, not you UFO VV Also, you came off like a prick with the way you worded your post.

Pint jars IMO are the best! Quart jars are slow and 1/2 pint jars are a waste.

Like everyone mentioned, it's a sterility issue. Also, smaller jars are recommended because the cake will have more surface area per volume of substrate. I'd assume that fruiting a pint cake will simply yield fewer, but fatter mushrooms, similar to thicker casings.

yeah probably would still work, but you don't really want to get anything in the dry verm layer.
Just fill the jars up normally, they'll work, ive done it hundreds of times.
stay safe

ya i know, thats because i have been reading for a long, long time, and i have seen it happen not only with my posts but with others as well. people freak the fuck out because a question got asked that was asked last week. wich is stupid, there is no reason for it. just answer the question and if you answered it twice yesterday and dont want to answer it again, dont. i read alot, but my memory is pathetic, it always has been. and i do search but exactly what i want doesnt always come up, usually it is something very similar, but very similar will bring failed grow attempts

I didn't think about the solution hitting the top of the dry layer either. Oh well I need to read more and post less !!

Now, you can use pints if you fill them all the way up, but you need to use a little extra spore solution (make sure it rolls all the way down the side), they take a little longer to colonize, but it works out. It's just the fact that OP said he was only filling half way.

Pint Jars need a 5th injection point in the center!
