sterilisation of grain bags using a microwave

hi all I'm new to the forums but not new to some aspects of mushroom cultivation. I've searched about a bit and found that microwave ovens can be used in some cases to sterilise PF jars, but i was wondering if anyone had try-ed sterilizing grain bags using a microwave oven?
SWIM'S thinking of an experiment using some golden oyster spores SWIM got spare with a shroom kit SWIM bought so if nobody has attempted this i would be glad to keep you informed of the results.

Not Advanced Mycology, and it won't work either. Buy a pressure cooker. Search engine has page after page on teh topic.
And Welcome!

OK so here's how far SWIM has gotten,
a kilo bag of grains has been steeped overnight and rinsed until the water is clear, vermiculite was then added to soak up any excess liquid and also to bulk up the grain a bit. This mixture has now been transferred into a filter bag and is now sitting ready for the next step ( SWIM's awaiting any msgs saying NO don't nuke it! lol)

People have tried fractional sterilization in the microwave with grains and failed, time and time again. It doesn't work.

Well, search around and see if there's something that you have thought of that nobody else has, it certainly could happen.
Plus, how well did you dry that grain? A kilo of the stuff is going to hold a lot of moisture.
And a kilo is a lot to microwave too- I think people that have had success have used much smaller amounts.
Trying new things is great, but don't just throw money away. Try something that will work.

This thread was moved from Advanced Mycology.
Reason: A simple fact of physics is that dirty water, such as that in your grain bag can't exist above 212F/100C in a liquid state. That means that as soon as it's heated above that level(required for sterilization) it will turn to steam and evaporate, either through the filter patch or through exploding the bag itself. That's why we use pressure cookers. RR
