no the microwave isnt good for anything in mycology.  its an uneven heating element and can do more harm than good.

throw a bag of popcorn in and when its done search and read.

I've used the microwave with grain in spawn bags several times, and it's worked for me. After a 24 hour soak I cooked the grain in a pot on the stove, for about 10 minutes. Then I drained off the water, loaded grain into bags, what didn't fit in the PC I microwaved for 20 minutes on high, then again 12 hours later for 20 minutes, and one last time another 12 hours later.

Maybe sit a saucer or some sort of lid on your jars. I've also microwaved substrates in take away food containers (Polypropylene 5), and they worked. I left the lids slightly ajar.

Try it and see.

PCs are good, because of the high pressure they have that implodes bad shit..

Soaking is good too, from what I've heard - Prior to PCing..

find a way to lay the jar down on something in your PC so it doesn't have to stand up but is still able to be PC'd.

personally I have a SMALL PC I found at the Goodwill for $7
i can't put more than two half-quart jars in at a time, on a slant.

works though.
try the same yourself, you'll just have to do less jars at once.

Personally I could see a microwave being usable to sterilize. It definitely kills bacteria living in food quite readily (otherwise I'd prolly be dead by now.) and I'm sure even the toughest of molds can't live with a violently boiling mass of water for too long.

The risk would be exploding jars o.O; If this is tried do it very carefully haha.

If it worked, people would use it. Here and commercially as well.
Microwave sterilization of food just isn't likely.
