WBS Too Dry? Dead LC? few q's

?1. I knocked up 7 jars of wbs 5 or 6 days ago, ms, threw them in a sterlite. Used a syringe from ralphy, split equally between the jars. I opened it up today to take a peek at the jars, and there's no growth whatsoever. I prepped the wbs by soaking it for 14-16 hours, 10 min boil, threw it in the strainer thing for 5 or 6 hours, till it felt dry to the touch. Then I pc'd for about an hour and 15 min. I shook them up when the were still hot, and when they cooled I didn't see and condensation inside the jars. It was really easy to shake, as easy as dry wbs out of the bag. I'm starting to think the wbs was too dry. I'm going to add some water to the jars and see if they pick up, sterile water of course. I know you can't judge moisture by a picture, but heres one anyways:

What do you guys think? Am I being impatient or should I give them some hydration?
Q2, Started up this lc a few weeks ago. Soon as I saw mycelia at the bottom, I gave it a violent shaking. The jar remained cloudy for a couple day then settled back down to the bottom. I seems as it has been stalled with the same amount of mycelia since then. Could they all be dead? Need O2? Invisible contam? The water is clear as before I knocked it up now, unless I shake. Heres some shitty pics: Settled at bottom:
 Swirled:

What do you guys think?
?3 Also, I have the option of getting hpoo from a friend with a couple horses, That he says are fed by grazing on grass all summer, and only fed hay in the winter. Or I can drive a little further to a stable that I'm sure would be hay fed. Is it worth the drive to get the hay fed horse shit?
Thanks for the help, This forum is awsome.

1- you're being impatient with the jars, even though your boil time probably wasn't long enough.
2- looks more like sediment than healthy mycelium. how long before you saw mycelium and how did you make your LC?
no idea on 3, though.

There's no way the problem is dryness. There's burst grains in there from boiling. There's wet grains stuck to the glass. There's clearly enough moisture in there.

1) 5-6 days, I'd expect to see a little growth on at least one of the jars. Not sure what the issue is. Did you let the jars cool for a few hours before inoculation?
2) Yeah, that second picture doesn't look like a good LC to me, unless you have a blender base on there that you're using to mix it Mycelium tends to be very thick and clump together in LC's.
3) Free manure, hell I'd jump on any I could get. If you do go get some all hay fed, could you do a side-by-side comparison? I'm willing to bet the results wouldn't vary much.

The lc was made with glucose/maltose, pc'd for an hour at 15psi, has 2 self healing ports on the lid. Used a sterile syringe stuffed with polyfill to release the vacuum. If it's sediment, its either dead myc or bacteria/mold. I saw myc on the bottom after about 30 hours, white wispy strands, like the ones you can kind of see in the swirled picture if you maximize it. Is it normal for myc to stall out?
On the WBS- So your saying its normal not to see anything whatsoever after 5 days? I've seen plenty of posts with people saying that there wbs was over 50% by day seven, some further, from ms inoculation, even faster from ms lc, but I did not want to use the lc because it seemed fishy.

I had 5 jars with no growth for 9 days from MS in my last grow. Luck of the draw with germination times.
As far as the LC goes, I have had a few go bad with that very same technique. Not sure why that is.

If there's something wrong, it's not the grains. They look plump and juicy.
I wouldn't give up on it yet. The tiniest bit of live mycelium in there could colonize the whole jar. If still nothing after 2 weeks chuck it.

that pic was perfect, you can tell that the millet has swollen with H2o it looks perfectly hydrated (good job!) give em about 5 or 6 more days undisturbed and you should see growth. in non-optimal conditions ive seen wbs take up to 2 weeks for signs of growth.

I let the jars cool at least 8 hours, pc'd, went to work, knocked em up when I got home. Also, there being stored between 70-80f, I know colonization occurs faster at higher temps than fruiting temps, should I put a little space heater in my closet? Thanks
Also, the burst grains don't mean anything about the water content, I'm sure I could get dry wbs to burst if heated long enough, you dont have to soak popcorn before you cook it.

I hope your right, to me the grain looks withered and dessicated, but this is my first wbs attempt so I'm going to trust the good people of the shroomery with this one, let em sit for another week or so and hope for the best.
I read that wbs colonized faster when its on the dry side, thats why I let it strain for hours instead of the 30min in the tek I used.
But, if I don't see any myc or contams in another week, should I give em so more water? Should I shoot em up with another spore syringe? Or should I start all over with fresh grain? Thanks
