Would a sterlized, air tight jar contam eventually? why/how?

Hi, so I'm just wondering what would happen if you sterilized an air tight jar of grain and left it sitting for weeks or months. I'm guessing that it would eventually contam but how exactly would mold spores like Penicillium or Aspergillus or Trich get into the jar if it was air tight?

It would eventually contaminate with bacteria due to at least a few endospores which always survive pressure cooking. RR

OR contam in the syringe or you mean without inoculating.

RR, I saw you wrote this in another thread: "If you're talking brf jars, they can be stored for awhile because brown rice doesn't harbor bacterial endospores. When you move to grains, they should be used as soon as possible after sterilization for best results. RR" http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6325124
So what if my same question applied to a brf jar?
What I'd really like to know is the most likely cause that a brf jar would contam within a week of sterilization and not yet inoculated. The jars had a verm barrier AND a filter disc. How could green mold spread through jars so quickly under these circumstances?

It sounds like a case of improper sterilization. Many growers fail to let the pressure cooker or boiling pot vent steam for a few minutes prior to closing up. This step is extremely important. If steaming the jars, you don't start counting the 90 minutes until after steam begins to escape from under the lid, which is usually ten or more minutes after the water begins to boil. RR

Thank you for that. I foolishly purchased these jars online so I can't verify the quality of sterilization. The seller claims to have kept test jars and believes that contams were introduced during transit, but I don't understand how. He makes these odd taller, thinner halfpint brf jars with mini grain jar lids and seals up the (already filtered) gas exchange hole with aluminum tape. So I don't know how mold spores could have possibly entered every single jar when they were completely sealed by tape and a silicone injection port.
