Cheese grater vs. crumbling vs. slices or whole
    #1100841 - 12/01/02 11:36 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

Ok when using a cheese grater to seperate a pf cake for casing...what side of the grater do you use? The side that slices cheese into thin slices or the side that is for like grating cheese for nachos or pizza?

And through your expierence what works best? crumbling, slicing cakes, or leaving them whole?

If you are using the cake as spawn for bulk substrates then a cheese grater is definitely the way to go.

for a pf cake going to casing(not spawning) I would slice it into big chunks, only breaking it up enough to fit into your container. less recovery time this way as the myc network doesn't need to reestablish itself completely. i also scruff the outside surface where it was in contact with the jar to promote healthy myc growth.

for spawning a cheese grater(small side with small cheese holes) is good for creating many inoculation points. or dice it into tiny pieces with a knife if you're a chef
