Can just verm and nothing else be used for making a casing?

Ok yeah, normally i would but i have a busy day today. But this guy that just says "Read the FAQ's" isnt really helping anybody. Than he says no when i asked if u could use an all verm casing...when he posted in your post....Which the main subject was an all verm casing and the procedure... This guy is an idiot IMO.

Straight vermiculite works fine as a casing....... I had great flushes with it it the beginning. I`ve moved on to 50/50 peat verm and a little oyster shell to balance the ph,..... or Coco coir is good also

Ok im the idiot ok
If you acually read the very first post on this vboard then youd see it says READ THE FAQ and search the forum before asking questions because 99.9 % of the questions you are asking have already been dealt with a long time ago
So use your brain and look for the answers if not found then ask them here

And to answer your casing with verm ? the asnwer is NO because vermiculite has NO NUTRIENTS and a casing layer sghould have them in it

And how many harvests and successful grows do you have ??? Think before you say that i know nothing about your question

Verm works well as a casing. Casings do not and should not provide nutrients. It is your substrate that will provide nutrients....BRF, Grains, Millet, etc.

yes mac i understand that but the reason why you case with 50 50 or whatever you do it with is for the nutrients in the substrate verm has nothing in it it just holds moisture thats why its put on as a to casing layer

Im not tryna sound like i know it all i just read alot and ask people for advice on things

dude, verm is evil man, use coir. it's cheaper, easier, and you can add some verm to it if you want a slow transition. if i couldn't get coir i think i would use straight peat, straight dung, or peat/dung. my point is eliminate verm

No. The point of a casing is to provide a humid microclimate for the mycelium, protect the network, and provide a water reservoir for maturing mushrooms. Have you ever read Stamets? The point of a casing is that it doesn't provide nutrients. Look at this link: The Casing Layer. Read this before telling anyone anything about casings.

4. Nutritive Value:
The casing is not designed to provide nutrients to developing mushrooms and should have a low nutritional value compared to the substrate. A nutriative casing supports a broader range of competitor molds. Wood fragments and other undecomposed plant matter are prime sites for mold growth and should be carefully screened out of a well formulated casing.
