water in my cakes?
    #11005296 - 09/05/09 05:10 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

so i accidentally put too much water in my pressure cooker when i was sterilizing my jars, and a few of them filled up with water.  I inoculated* them anyways.  will i still have mycelium growth or should i just start over and resterilize with new jars.

this is my second grow so another question is that on my first grow, it was successful, but i wasnt getting the results i wanted.

my setup is a large chamber with a couple holes, a timed flourescent light (12on-12off) and a humidifier inside the chamber.  my problem was that i was getting lots of small mushrooms when i want big ones.  i think my problem is my fresh air exchange so im installing an exhaust fan.  also, im going to poke a small drain hole in the bottom because of the humidifier my perlite is basically floating on 2 inches of water so i want a hole just big enough to keep the perlite wet but not be floating.  any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Don't even need to use a humidifier. just take your tote and drill 1/4inch  holes 2 inches apart on all six sides and then trow in 4-5 inches of wet strained perlite. Then all you have to do is mist and fan 3-6 times a day

i have the humidifier because i dont have the time to mist and fan.

do you think it will still contaiminate if i have taken every precaution to make sure that the cakes incubate in a sterile environment?

You need a lot of fresh air coming in.

Im going to have exhaust fans moving air through the chamber so i dont think that will be a problem.  as far as the water goes, i hope im not doomed, but ill let them incubate anyways and see. i appreaciate your input man.

Unless it affects humidity. This is why it is so hard to do this on a small scale, there's no buffer. But it might work.

Still, if your jars filled up with water, toss them. Save yourself the heartache.
