Re: Obama airstrike killed mostly civilians [Re: lonestar2004]
    #11020800 -

i don't think anyone is honestly expecting war crimes charges against Bush. It appears the call is mostly for Rumsfeld and Cheney.

Really, it's only going to go for the lowest lawyers. At least in this country. Was it Italy that called for the law-men?

This following I don't understand. Conservatives love big business. Liberals love government. (Sic)

Yet, both fight the other when government and big business have been the same entity fucking both sides of the angry and disenfranchised over for almost, (if not more than), a century. I wasn't there, so I won't comment on the history of the nineteenth century.

Lonestar, I'm disappointed. You've gone for propaganda pieces you already ripped apart a year ago when they were approached from the other side with only a simple comment to support a platform at the bottom.

You are better than this. I saw it during the election season, you put individual thought into your comments. Biased, but still thought and not simply repeated. I'm not seeing so much now. Not an insult, just an observation.

How about we slash that defense budget by 10% and stop supporting the murder of innocent people over there? Oh, but I'm sure you would be against anything that reduces the size of the military

thats funny coming from someone who defends the man sending the troops and bombs over there...

Supporting military action and supporting the military-industrial complex are two different things.

How can there be military action without a military industrial complex?  Legos?

You'd think a champion of small government such as yourself would recognize the difference between maintaining a well-trained, technology-endowed military and appropriating trillions of extra dollars to private companies that soak up the funding with expensive Cold War-style programs that have no applications outside of enriching the interest groups that lobby for them in Congress.

Wouldn't you agree that at least some of the multi-billion-dollar programs we're funding are in excess of what we genuinely need? Or, I suppose you could alternately believe, every last program is vital to our national defense and cutting it by even 1% would cripple our military and allow any nation to waltz right onto our shores?

Nice run on.  Also nonsense.  The military is a bona fide function of the federal government, as spelled out in the Constitution.  Damned if I can find the phrase health care anywhere in it.

Since when have you qualified as a military strategist?  Why do you believe that other militarized nations (China, Russia, N. Korea) are no longer of issue?  Are you aware that the best way to ensure that you will never have to fight is to be ready to fight and willing to fight and to be guaranteed to prevail?  What's wrong with private companies that hire American workers building the weapons systems we need?  Did you know that you too can own a great deal of the military industrial complex?  A great many of the "private" companies are actually publicly traded.  Shouldn't the people and companies that build our weapons make money doing it?  If you don't think they should make money doing it who do you suppose will build the weapons systems?  Slaves?

I would like to see it cut in lots of places, all of which has to do with turning military projects away from being WPA pork barrels.  Every time the Pentagon wants to cut a contract or close a base the wailing and gnashing of teeth in the places being cut reaches to the halls of Valhalla and they remain.  Funny how those voters are special interests.  Each and every one of them.

Quoted for truth.  For this last budget request, Gates asked for cuts in numerous areas, but apparently Congress knows better about what the military needs.

If you are trying to imply that the Taliban is a Democracy, you are completely out of touch!  They are thugs and bullies that murder and torture their own Brothers! If you want to know the meaning of torture, go live with the Taliban! If you can't see why they would lie about us, then something has clouded your common sense.

I'm not too worried about China or Russia deciding to blanket our country with fighter jets and/or nuclear warheads, no.

There are real shortcomings in military funding and I'm sure the troops fighting on the ground would prefer to have some extra armor on their Humvees than hyper-advanced yet supremely faulty fighter jets to counter an imaginary Soviet air invasion. But I'm no military strategist.

Are you going to tell me the F-22 program is a good recipient for our tax dollars, having soaked up tens of billions of dollars and never being flown over either Iraq or Afghanistan?

Also, thanks for your brilliant insight about how we need the gigantic military-industrial complex to create stable jobs for the American economy. It's not like those resources could used in more productive areas such as infrastructure, education, or healthcare that would actually benefit the American people instead of being blown up overseas by terrorists with homemade explosives. But hey, as long as the defense contractors are getting rich, right?

That isn't the point.  The point is that since they can't, they won't.  And why is it that they can't?

No, you are not.  Heavier armor means slower units.  Otherwise they would all be in tanks.  You are not qualified to assess.  And our fighter jets are far and away the finest in the world.  Far and away.

It is best to be prepared for all eventualities.  Program that should be killed is the Osprey.  If the military says the F-22 sucks then cut that too.  However, utility in Afghanistan and Iraq should not be the sole determinant.

You too can get rich as a defense contractor should you so choose.  Like I said, you can own some of it.  Health care already consumes one sixth of the economy, education doesn't need any more money it needs less unions.  Infrastructure?  Maybe a little more.  So what?  You're the one who said we didn't need a M-I complex to have military activity.  Which is really, really stupid.

Sure, PrObama media calls them NATO air strikes, seems the rest of the
world calls out the  US on the bullshit, of course when you find
reference int he US news about a US air strike, most are pre-Barack

Does Germany have troops in Kunduz? Are they part of the NATO-led forces in the area? Did their commander order the airstrikes?

what nations jets executed the air strike?
Why is Obama exempt from being called a war criminal when innocent
civilians are killed under a NATO operation and Bush is not?

Surely Bush cant be held accountable for Iraq either since it was a
coalition of nations, 40 in all making it another UN/NATO mission

Quote:
Looks like the purpose of that statement went over your head.

When McChrystal apologized, he did so as the NATO commander, recognizing the partnership between German and U.S. forces that allows allied countries to call in bombs with our aircraft. We're working together over there. Germany has the third-largest contingent of forces.

looks like the purpose in mine keep escaping you, bush caught the blame
for the wars in 2 nations, he caught the blame for civilian casualties
as well as ground troops, now we have another dumbass in the oval office
and no one want to blame him, he's blaming bush even though this is
obviously a NATO engagement, Obama is responsible just as Bush was
and it doesnt matter how the media wants to transmit the info to best
protect obama from criticism, he's still got his fingers in the pie

Quote:
I think the idea is that if we have actionable intelligence about the specific location of high-priority A'Q targets, we should have the unilateral authority to take them out, with or without the permission of Pakistan's government. That's American foreign policy, yet Osama bin Laden escaped from Bush for eight years hiding in caves and whatnot so it hasn't worked terribly well.

correction, Bin Laden escaped for the NATO Coalition Forces for 8 years,
remember, it's a NATO operation, has been since the beginning, as I
recall it was actionable intelligence that put us in Iraq

Quote:
I agree there are too many civilian casualties from unmanned drones. How about we slash that defense budget by 10% and stop supporting the murder of innocent people over there? Oh, but I'm sure you would be against anything that reduces the size of the military and forces some amount of restraint on those war criminals you want to prosecute so badly.

how about we reduce the size of the military, close foreign bases, call
the troops home, pull out of NATO and the UN and call it a day, tomorrow
we can work on prosecution of both bush and obama for their war crimes

can you show me where the taliban is the current government in
Afghanistan because I've said absolutely nothing of the sort, it's not
the taliban giving us the numbers that the US then changes, it's the
Afghan government

unlike spending $65 billion on a fighter jet budget which, oops, is vulnerable in the rain and sand and requires 30 hours of maintenance for every hour its in the air ($44,000/hr). and it's not even dogfighting 21st century soviet sorties yet, either.

the f-22 wsnt purposed for Iraq or Afghanistan, the days of dog fighting
are long gone, this aint Top Gun, it has OBD systems that rival that of even the finest  automobiles from 1990

maybe you should reconsider the money and time spent servicing and
operating the aircraft as it's only about 12 hours per flight hour,
it's all comparable to anything else the military is flying
