Can I use a vacutainer, filter and hand pump to extract Myc material to make an liquid culture? Does any one know the exact procedures for this process or know a link to a Tek or Teks on this?? What other processes can a Vacutainer, filter and hand pump extractor be used for? Thanks for the help. I looked with the search but didn't find much.

Filtering out plant matter or anything else really used for making extraction mostly.

LCs that are inoculated with MYC material do not require ANY special equipment. You just grab a hunk of MYC out of a sterile colonized jar and drop it into a sterilized LC (using a GB or flow hood).
You can grab tissue from inside of a fruit to create a clone LC. This also requires no special equipment aside from a GB (or a flow hood).
I'm not sure what the significance is with regard to 'vacutainers' or hand pumps. I have heard that some hand pumps can be used to create suction for drawing fluids out of a slurry that you wish to strain. This is commonly done when creating an 'extraction'. An extraction is entirely different from inoculating LCs though.

A vacutaier is this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacutainer
A filter pump is used for extractions
A Vacutainer would be no good for LC's it has no way for gas exchange and the only thing the filter hand pump is good for is filtering out stuff

For example, you might extract alkaloids from powdered fungal fruitbodies, and use your hand pump for vacuum filtration. At least, that's what I did.

OK Doc That's what I was looking for, I'm thinking there would be some uses for this equipment in other processes I'm just not asking in the correct manor, I just ordered one and I'm just trying to figure out what "all" I can do with it, much appreciated.

You are talking about a vacuum funnel with hand pump? And maybe an Erlenmeyer flask as as receiver? Yeah, it rocks for extractions. Doesn't do much else.
That fungus-powder extraction, I used Everclear for that. Just sayin'.

These work great.

So you have a personal Tek on that particular machine? Please don't include pics. We know you use it for extracting your nutrients right.

I'm telling you this man loved to tinker and was good at it.
Had one post from him and he was a Gentleman. After writing to others he sounded like a good friend too.
I think this is what your looking for.
It's all Agar's as far as I know,

Thanks DrumJam that's what I'm looking for,,, all the different uses for this equipment and if there were any good Teks out there. The One I'm talking about is sold by Myco Supply,, not Hustler! Thanks for the help! You seem like like a Gentleman also.
