Ok so i decided to start growing again and this time a lot more. i was thinking, if i have a terrarium and i case the bottom, can i also place cakes on top of that? haha i know it sounds weird, im just wondering if its possible. the casing would be vermiculite i think i havent decided.
btw, since i asked that, i was wondering if it was possible to have a fan on low speed to give good air exchange. im just lazy and dont want to fan out a terrarium. anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

Im not sure what your asking... I think your mis-using the word "case" A casing is the thin layer of verm/peat moss that you put over your bulk substraite. If you want to do cakes, you should make a shotgun FC.

A fan blowing over the casing would dry it out just build a the shotgun terrarium. Also no need to put a fan on the shotgun either it will dry it out

For PF cakes do what I said trust me the best way to go for cakes. Heck you could get away with just fanning and misting 3 times a day Im sure you can do that

Search for threads about the PMP (Poor Man's Pod)
May as well just build a monotub and spawn to bulk in it. If you're getting back into the swing of things, you may as well get some bang for your buck.
Or if you want to do cakes, you could still spawn to bulk in some trays and place those in your PMP or shotgun FC. Read the horse poo tek in my signature and you'll learn how to spawn ground up BRF cakes into poo (or coir, or a mixture of any bulk) trays. Not very hard at all. You could turn some BRF cakes into quite a few ounces of mushrooms!

If you gonna do a bulk, you will have plenty of shrooms. I dont really see any point of putting cakes on top of that... All thats gonna do is block surface area where shrooms were going to be growing anyway. Im also not sure they would get as much moisture as with a shotgun with 4 inches or perlite at the bottom.

shotgun shotgun shotgun is the answer you don't have to fan it every hour ya know, like I said even 3 times a day if you cant put that much effort in growing you shouldn't be doing it.

Then either get a monotub started or some bulk trays going. I haven't done a monotub yet, only bulk trays, but I know that they're really easy and they can yield very well. You'll want to fan and mist accordingly, so I guess just try to find time in your schedule to do it.

If you are doing pf tek, I would recommend what project said- crumble to bulk. You can just build a monotub, and you wont have to do anything to it. Its good to have a fan on low in the room, but not pointed at the monotub, just circulating the air. If you already have a humidifier you could set it up on a timer for like 15 mins every hour if you wanted.
try this monotub tek if you are crumbling the cakes.
If you have a pressure cooker, or can get one, I would recommend doing bird seed spawned to coir in a monotub.
try this bird seed tek
heres how you can spawn to coir Just as easy as doing the pf tek. The only reason you should do pf tek is if you dont have a pressure cooker, or you are trying to grow out isolates, and you want to have a small grow to test.

actually if you don't have much time grow Mexicana or Tampanensis. Sclerotia is almost completely maintenance free. just innoc a jar of grain store it away for weeks and weeks and bam you got sclerotia

You'd need a lot of BRF cakes to do a monotub right. With BRF cakes, you're better off doing bulk trays because it's easier to work with smaller amounts.

Yup, thats true too. I guess it depends on how much time you have to put into it, and if for some reason you actually want MUSHROOMS. Personally I just like watching the mushrooms grow. Sclerotia is a very easy, maintenance free way of doing it though. Its also the most stealthy way to grow I think.

Well, you would probably need 20 1/2 pint cakes per brick of coir for about a 1:2 ratio for fast colonizing. You could get by with 10 cakes for a 1:4 ratio.
