Nogueira looked impressive
    #10964296 - 08/30/09 01:00 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

You can tell, just by looking at the weigh ins, he came in better shape than ever into the Octagon.

I honestly didn't expect him to take the fight, especially as dominant as he did.

Randy tried to use the strat as Mir by closing the distance and exchanging, but Nog really swung back hard every time Randy tried it.

That sweep in the 2nd round was beautiful.  He just does it so slickly...

He really looked like his old self, really well conditioned.  10 pounds lighter than when he fought Mir.

We've seen Nogueira get fired up after a loss, previously to Barnett.  After that loss he stormed back and came in shape and avenged himself in the rematch.

I sure hope he stays in shape and continues to work on his defense...still thrilled to see him return to form.

I've watched fighters long enough to see these fighters turn it around in this manner, and i think its safe to say Nogueira can be a force again if he maintains his conditioning and respects the competition he's facing in the UFC...

I was more surprised about Maia getting fucked up so bad.

The thing that had me laughing, is when Todd Duffee broke the UFC record for fastest fight ever, the first thing that went though my mind was that line Donald Gibb said in the movie Bloodsport...

"His first fight in the Kumite and he broke the fucking world record!!!"

Chong Li! Chong Li! Chong Li! Chong Li!

I love being among the people to support the "underdog" and he actually comes through, i loved the  text prediction of 72% for couture

but then again most of those voters probably have not much knowledge of Minotauro besides his ufc bouts.

he took a lot of hits but returned much stronger ones.

oh im so proud of big noggy. One of the better fights i'v seen in a while.

I can almost say the 2 prelim fights they threw in were more exciting than some of the other main card fights.

ALSO i fucking hate Yves Levigne, way to let Leben get choked unconcious, he clearly tapped and lavigne stood there playing with his tits.

and i was impressed with brandon vera, atleast compared to prior fights.

Speaking of heavyweights anybody see that Cock Lesnar has to put his title up against Shane Carwin at UFC 106..

That is going to be good. :awesome:

I don't understand that.

Is Carwin really the best HW they could find?

I didn't think he looked all that impressive vs. Gonzaga.  Yeah, it was a first round KO, but Carwin had almost been knocked out already too.

Kind of silly.

the hw division is pretty scarse as far as talent

there are plenty of jobbers out there , there will be more and more people like that duffee guy coming around and maybe they will earn their way up there but for now we got people liek carwin who throw hard ass punches, but also eat them too.

we will see how that carwin lesnar fight goes, i think lesnars wrestling has carwin beat, i know carwin has a wrestling background as well but i dunno all i can say is it should be entertaining..maybe

yup.

I'm beginning to think more and more that it was his loss to Mir which was more of a fluke than say....every other fight in his career over the past 5 years.

after training now its odd to see how basic nog's bjj is

the guy uses fairly standard subs and the sweep he used is learned at white belt level

it just proves how mastered basics can trump the flashier stuff in a real fight

nog is a true master of bjj fundamentals

You're right and you're wrong.  He's so damn good it looks like he's not doing anything complicated at all, while there's tons of subtleties going on.

I agree.

That's always been his signature bjj style.  He's really really fundamentally sound, which is why he makes so many basic moves look so easy.

I think of his fight against Werdum, and just watching their different grappling styles throughout the fight.  He uses alot of simple yet well-timed defensive maneuvers to counter Fabricio's attempts at positioning.

What makes Nog's BJJ so good is how he trains to transition from one position to the next, how good he is at positioning himself, his gaurd passes, his sweeps, and of course, how he sequences his submission attempts.

i think he's saying the same thing as u, which i agree with also.

He's so damn good that he makes the hard look easy.

I had to rewind and replay that sweep in the second round several times.  And it still blows my mind how easy he was able to reverse a world class wrestler.
