Using rice as desiccant...

WORKS GREAT! they couldnt get anymore cracker dry
I baked white rice at 200 for 10 minutes, let cool, then put the fan dried shrooms inside a tupperware container on the rice at the bottom.......a day later I opened the lid and checked them and they were cracker dry!...... ready for chocolates, tea, lemon tek, etc...!!!
why go through the hassel of finding silica gel when this seems to work very good and white rice is cheap and extremely easy to find?

I'll try this with my edibles next time they fruit!
I wonder how many times you could reuse it.

Wonder if the rice will mold tho if you bake it again after use.

as long as you keep it dry by re-baking I dont see why it would mold?

Rice has a water activity level above .85 which won't allow microbial to grow. As foe rice as a desiccant I guess drying it out might help but you will have to worry about Bacillus cereus or fried rice syndrome (not to be confused with Chinese food syndrome which is a crock of shit) ever wonder why people put rice in there salt shakers? The rice has more moisture than the salt.

Sorry you misunderstood what i mean is I Don't want contams in my house if it were to mold. not saying that it will just saying it is more likley to than damp rid.. which is not much more expensive..
Once the rice is sitting there in your drying chamber it will begin absorbing the moisture which could possibly lead to mold... im not saying dry rice is full of contams im just saying the risk is greater than with damp rid or silica..
