HI, I was w0nering if any 0f y0u have heard ab0ut the E-b0mb
it is a electr0magnetic nuclear warhead 0f which can easily be made by any terr0rist f0r under $500 and has the capabilities 0f causeing all electr0nic devices t0 be essentially melted by its magnetic destructi0n.
it's s0me real scary shit if y0u ask me.....

It emits an EMP? That's not really that scary... mostly annoying having to restart computers, etc. Although they could use it to do something else, like in Ocean's 11.

Pipe bomb wrapped with copper wire emits an EMP when detonated, I believe. The EMP will destroy pretty much anything electronic. It will destroy computers and anything else with circuitry, rendering it useless.

I think I read if you detonate a hydrogen bomb about 300 miles above the earth's surface it'll disable almost all electronic devices in the region below the bomb, will cause minimal damage to buildings and people.

A hydrogen bomb works on the idea of using an atomic bomb to set off an even larger bomb. At a given distance, it will emit EMPs which can cause damage and in some cases, the EMPs will be strong enough to affect structures.

Other than all that radioactive fallout, shedding skin, losing hair, and vomiting blood endlessly you mean?

The so-called "ebomb" doesn't really exist yet. The emp effect is something that has been obeserved within the blast radius of many types of explosives, but most powerfully in nuclear bombs. Think about it, if a terrorist could make it for under $500, don't you think our military would already have a much more advanced version. It would be an incredibly useful weapon to disable radar, vehicles, communications, etc....

True. The US military has performed countless experiments with EMPs to stop vehicles and take down buildings. Yet most of the time, these experiments don't yield much use for EMPs

I know its not an e-bomb but I heard of a bomb once that detonates a few hundred yards above the earths surface. It somehow creates a vacuum like effect and it sucks all of the oxygen/gases upwards. So for 5-10 minutes anything in its path suffocates. All structures stay intact, but all living things die...

Actually... The military has a weapon that produces EMP and can be directed at various things w/ a parabolic dish... I know they had a HUGE on back in the 60's or 70's or something that shot down a plane... But they have a different one now that is portable... I wish I could get my hands on one. I know that it requires that you use the magnetron (sp??) from a microwave to build... But thats about it.

It's called a fuel / air explosive. It scatters a fine mist of fuel which of course mixes with the air and is then ignited.
As a correction.... all strong / well built structures remain intact. Weaker ones are destroyed / damaged as well.

It was a response to Lana's post just a few up. Since you missed it I'll paste it here for you.

Happy now?

The US military doesn't use the EMP technology anymore. They do, however, experiment with microwave energy. The "magnetron" you're thinking of is actually a microwave dish used to focus energy onto an enemy to cause superficial burns. Riot control.

Actually, the fuel is detonated, not ignited. If you watch in slow motion, you can see the detonators released from the tail end of the muntion moments before the fuel is released. I believe the fuel they use is ethyl-chloride, or something close. Most of the muntions carry one or two 500 pound drums of fuel. Each one creates a cloud about 30 feet in radius and about 10 feet thick.
Getting back to the original post, in the late 50's the US military found out that if you detonate a nuclear bomb at a very high altitude, a large EMP pulse is released which destroys most electronic circuits. (Vacuum tube devices are not effected, but most solid state devices are). After accidently blowing out power across most of Europe and a good portion of the US and Canada, they decided to ban all high altitude tests.
There is no $500 nuclear EMP bomb. There are EMP releasing devices that could be built for around that cost, but they are non-nuclear.

I'd say we are both correct as the detonators ignite the fuel air mix.
